@LOVtheCOV@WLWT As a child, my cousin lived in the Bahamas. He once found a cannon ball on the floor of the ocean a couple hundred yards out from the beach. He walked it in across the ocean floor. I believe he still has it in his basement.
While I have lost weight the hard way (I wrestled), I'm not at all into self-deprivation. It will work if you have an iron will and an appetite for discomfort, but I do not. I much prefer eating like humans did since we evolved big brains, and not having to have "willpower" since my insulin isn't spiking. :) Seriously, though, there's an army of folks eating this way or similar who have dropped and kept off a ton of weight with ease.
I dropped 4 inches and kept the weight off without counting a single calorie. I just eliminated the carbohydrates and ate a lot of fat along with my meat and eggs (and vegetables). I just ate until I was full and the weight just fell off, effortlessly. It's our nature to eat that way.
You say it's intrinsically hard. I would say that every other diet for weight loss is intrinsically hard, but carnivore (and adjacent paleo/keto) are intrinsically easy. The weight just falls off, and stays off. It's much easier to work with our nature (predators), than to fight against it.
@CaryKelly11 After actively working to eliminate seed oils (which is not as easy as it would seem), I found that anything cooked in seed oil smells at least mildly rancid. I never noticed it before, but now I do.
@starbatsarah1@DrEliDavid We're rich compared to, well, everyone. We just LIKE temperature controlled environments and for us, they aren't expensive. Freedom is nice. Try it sometime.
@AWolf1989@DrEliDavid And THAT is the problem. An efficient heat pump chills my home to 72 degrees for typically less than $200 all summer long, and half of that is add on fees from my utility. I wish you were making more money, or that your government wasn't over-regulating energy and your economy.
@Chartfest1 Well, to nitpick, the most bearish advisor(s) are only flat. The least Bullish quartile is only 85.5% long. That's up there, but not at my "Sell signal" level.
That is my guess, too. Though, I have to tell you that I only recently got concerned about seed oils, and I haven't had a sunburn in a decade or more (since I went Paleo/keto). It could have something to do with no sugar, or no grains or beans. It is also possible that there was a substitution effect, as I stopped worrying about fat and ate more duck fat, beef fat, bacon fat, and butter, I just didn't have room or desire for seed oils (though I certainly ate a lot of Hellman's mayo until recently).
One time*, Bill Miller (Legg Mason Value Trust) told me a story about Alan Greenspan doing a Q/A for a bunch of managers was asked, "What do you think about the economy next year?"
Alan replied, "What do YOU think about the economy next year? After all, you guys are the ones investing real money based upon your economic analysis. You've got FAR more skin in the game than I do!"
(*this is paraphrasing from memory)
