The IEBC gazetted the 2027 electoral timetable on 20 August 2026. Four deadlines fall before this year ends. The first binds political parties on 15 October.

For today's girl, the digital world can be a classroom, library, creative studio, social space and gateway to opportunity. But it can also expose her to harassment, exploitation, sexual abuse and intimidation.

The stakes are high. Kenya recorded 17,361 reported SGBV cases involving adolescents aged 10–17 in 2024, representing 36% of all reported national SGBV cases that year.

Protecting girls therefore requires more than telling them to “be careful online.” Families, schools, institutions, platforms and duty bearers all have a role in creating environments where girls can participate safely and seek help without blame.

Every girl deserves a digital future defined by opportunity—not fear.

Political violence and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) must never become the price women pay for seeking public office. As Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election, women lawmakers and aspirants face a growing spectrum of threats—from physical intimidation and violence to online harassment, sexualised abuse, threats, disinformation and coordinated digital attacks designed to silence and discredit them.

These attacks are not merely political tactics; they undermine gender equality, human dignity and women’s constitutional right to participate equally in public affairs. No woman should have to choose between pursuing leadership and protecting her safety, dignity or privacy.

The Commission remains committed to advancing gender equality, combating discrimination, addressing GBV and TFGBV, and promoting safe, inclusive and meaningful participation of women and all Special Interest Groups in public life.

As 2027 approaches, we must prevent violence both offline and online, strengthen accountability, support survivors and ensure that technology is not weaponised to silence women.

A truly democratic election is one where every voice can be heard without fear.

The Commission also launched the Teachers of Kenya: Status of Equality and Inclusion in the Teaching Workforce Report 2025, which examined over 425,000 Teachers Service Commission employed teachers across more than 56,000 public learning institutions. The report highlights progress towards gender parity while drawing attention to disparities in STEM teaching, disability inclusion and representation, as well as the need to address gender-based violence within schools. The findings provide critical evidence to strengthen inclusive recruitment, deployment and promotion policies while ensuring every learner has access to quality and equitable education.

Today, the Commission launched four landmark Equality and Inclusion publications during a County Leadership Engagement in Kilifi County under the #NGECMashinaniinitiative. The reports provide a comprehensive assessment of the state of equality and inclusion in Kenya and will guide policy, legislation, planning and service delivery at both the national and county levels. We've wrapped up a busy day of engagements in Kilifi County with a tree planting exercise at Kilifi GK Prison led by Commission Secretary/CEO Dr. Purity Ngina. Kajiado County: Today, @KajiadoGov commissioned a fully-equipped GBV Recovery Centre at its Level 5 Hospital—established through the @NGECKenya– @jica_direct_en pilot project aimed at strengthening county responses to GBV. This modern facility will offer professional, survivor-centred care including medical treatment, psychosocial support, and referral services. It’s a model of coordinated service delivery and a beacon of hope for survivors in the region. Engaging Men for a GBV-Free Society
The Taita Taveta team today held a Men's Engagement Forum in Taveta, where the men affirmed their crucial role in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). They emphasized that combating GBV requires a collective community approach, combining legal and communal interventions to address deep-rooted issues.
One key takeaway is that changing attitudes matter. The perception that "gender is only about women" has hindered progress, escalating some challenges beyond control. The men also highlighted the pivotal role of male role models in shaping positive behaviors and attitudes among boys and youth.
Together, we can create a society where respect, equality, and understanding thrive. Let’s engage men and boys as allies in this journey toward a GBV-free world!
