The kind of comment that makes all those dark nights of the soul involved in writing a book - & the long dark nights spent writing the thing -.worth it. Thanks so much @SallyHolding1@BradtGuides@OuterHebs
@OrkneyLibrary Jamaica inn is set on Bodmin Moor, which is remarkably similar to the interior of Rousay ... moorland, peat, scattered farmsteads and packed with Neolithic bits and bobs. Worth a busman's holiday some time!
@Downhill2ndHalf Wondering if Paul showler is another. Scored against Barnet for Bradford in that dismal season after Flashmans house of cards collapsed. He shredded the bees in 1991 when Altrincham won 4-1 but not sure if he scored?
@BristOliver Good piece, refreshing to find a mathematician who can genuinely write/ communicate well. Gulliver's cucumbers ref means this Eng Lit graduate marks you up a grade boundary. Writing that as a journalist so hope it doesn't come across as patronising.
Five star reviews all the way for my new edition of the Bradt guide to Orkney, and with lovely comments that genuinely make the whole project worthwhile. Thanks to all of you who have bought it.

I'm researching the 3rd edition of my guidebook to the #OuterHebrides & the weather is being incredibly cooperative!

Halloween on South Uist in 1932... π± The island's children made homemade costumes from sheepskins, haystack wigs, sheep ears and even scraped-out skulls!

A lot of people have said that @tonyhusband1's work could be as poignent & cutting as his others could be witty & fun
This is an extremely powerful example
As long as you're not some slopbrained, hate-goblin who supports the likes of Farage cause he points at easy targets for you
Why is it Orkney but not Orkadians?
If it's Orcadians, why not Orcney?
I've often wondered this myself & even people I thought wld know aren't sure.
Apols for blurry pic but I'd had 2 pints of Scapa Special! Doesn't take much nowadays.

@HI_Voices community....I'm writing about the Abhainn aβ LΓ²in in Uig in/on Lewis (near Morsgail). I was once told the river's name translates as 'River of the Pond'. Anyone know why, or what pond it refers to? All rivers begin with a puddle but is there something specific?!

@PaulMilesJourno Think that's bad Paul, it's par for the course. I wrote a piece on Northumberland national park and never knew it could evoke so much wild hatred and prejudice. So many people out there just itching to find something to be poisonous about.
