It was my pleasure to facilitate several sessions during this capacity building for the South Sudan Human Commission.
In a post-conflict state like South Sudan the national Human Rights Commissions' actions plays a significant role in the democratic transition.
The @_AfricanUnion concluded a week-long Capacity-Building Workshop with the #SouthSudan Human Rights Commission (SSHRC).
@AUC_PAPS, supported by AfCHPR, ACHPR and ACWERC strengthened SSHRC institutional capacity, deepened knowledge of AU mechanisms, & charted a roadmap for human rights protection ahead of 2026 elections.
At the closing of the SSHRC workshop in Juba, Mr. Issaka Garba Abdou, on behalf of the Commissioner for PAPS reaffirmed AU's support to a strong, independent & credible National Human Rights Commission—anchored in the Paris Principles & the AU Human Rights Decade (2016-2026).
The @AUC_PAPS commends the SSHRC for its commitment to promoting & protecting rights in a challenging context. Together with ACHPR, AfCHPR, ACERWC & NANHRI, AU will continue supporting its journey towards “A status” accreditation under the Paris Principles. In his closing remarks, Mr. Issaka reaffirmed that the protection of peoples’ rights is inseparable from peace & reconciliation. The AU will walk alongside the SSHRC, the Gov’t of #SouthSudan & partners to ensure a future rooted in justice, dignity & democracy. #Agenda2063 #HumanRights

Paris could see temperatures of 45°C next week, taking into account the heat island effect, with tropical nights also. Europe and the Mediterranean are experiencing the fastest warming in recorded human history. Hard not to ask: what will 2035 look like at this rate?
