Yesterday I received this from Nicolette Kinnear, she is of course the widow of the very brave Col. Charl Kinnear who was assassinated just a few years ago for doing his job with integrity (Something that is missing in much of the top ranks of the @SAPoliceService.
It's her reaction, very accurate I might add, on the South African Police Service managements cheap tricks to soft soap those who experienced losing someone that paid the ultimate price. Bheki Cele and SAPS senior ranks often offer 'free education' for slain cops' children but simply never deliver on their promises.
She says the following:
"Dear Ian,
I read your input in the weekend Argus with regards to funds generated at a SAPS function, meant to assist children of slain South African Police Service officers
These slain officers deserve better, their kids deserve better!!
I wanted to share my experience and trauma we had to endure.
What is really going to happen to the R6,6 million raised with the Golf day???
I lost my dear husband, a distinguished Anti-Gang Unit detective in 2020, I simply don't trust the SAPS management process of handling funds. My own experience with regards to SAPS helping my children get through their studies speaks volumes.
My view on this is that SAPS must play open books and explain the process of this funding.
I remember when my husband was assassinated, it was a Friday, the Saturday I had the national police minister, Bheki Cele in my home promising me that my child’s education will be sorted.
It wasn't like I was told that it's an application process, it was offered to me as a definite.
When the time came I was instead greeted with unwarranted questions.
I was asked to share my payslip, which I found so unfair, because my kids lost their father due to his work, they were robbed of him, the least they could have done is help like they said they would.
After a while the excuses started about the board being dissolved and there not being money, so I started making a way for myself and my son got through his studies without getting a cent.
I had to make arrangements with the Institution because I wasn't going to let my son be turned away from writing exams because of non-payment, but I also had to understand that as an Institution they needed money.
This is why, I would tell the SAPS to clarify to the family of slain cops exactly what the processes are and also make known who qualifies and what allows them to qualify for the fund.
Families are led to believe that all children of slain officers will benefit from this fund which is a blatant lie.
This fund seems to be a NSFAS 2.0
It's absolutely cruel to create an expectation with a child that his /her studies will be paid...
Just to face the grave disappointment that you and your family have been lied to.
We need to share the truth with the people of South Africa!
Regards,
Nicolette"

Do you know what irks me a lot on here, the fact that Casemiro’s wage is brought up daily in conversation in regards to cost cutting but no one says a word about what Marcus Rashford is somehow earning every week.
