Fascinating argument by Bloomberg's top energy analyst Javier Blas 👇: he argues that China effectively saved the world economy during the Iran war by absorbing the brunt of the global oil supply shock on its own, without visible economic damage.
According to his calculations, China "cut its average daily waterborne oil imports by the same amount as the combined oil consumption of Germany, France and the UK."
And, still according to Blas, they "did so without suffering economic harm" because they could rely on many levers: their huge strategic petroleum reserve, a massive surge in EV usage, their remaining coal-fired electricity capacity, and coal-to-chemicals replacing lost feedstocks.
Had China not been ready to absorb that blow, a good argument can be made that the economic damage to the West, and the world at large, would have spiraled far beyond what we saw.
Effectively, China's energy strategy at all levels (petroleum reserves, EVs, etc.) and its ability to withstand huge supply shocks paid off for everyone, not just for them.
It sounds awfully familiar: in 2008 too it was China's stimulus package and continuous buying of US Treasuries that averted a complete breakdown of the global financial system.
So twice in 20 years the country the West loves to present as a "threat" to the global economy effectively saved it from a US-made global economic disaster 🤷
We should neither normalize nor accept the fact that the US, a formal EU ally through NATO, routinely threatens to commit war crimes, including by bombing civilian infrastructure such as bridges, power plants, and desalination facilities. #IranWar

I’ve been asked to stay silent on Lindsey Graham's death and keep diplomatic narratives!
We were raised to respect the dead, regardless of who they were or what they did during their lives; for God alone will hold them to account.
I met—or rather, saw—Lindsey Graham; and while all were shaking his hand, I stood at a distance, gazing at him as if I were looking at a demon on earth.
He was the Zionist mastermind in Washington, D.C. He once stated:
“Do whatever the hell you have to do in Gaza…”
“Level the place.”
“Just flatten it. Just like We flattened Berlin and we flattened Tokyo.”
“We weren’t wrong to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. Do in Gaza what we did in Tokyo and Berlin.”
Lindsey Graham advocated for dropping nuclear bombs on Gaza.
Lindsey Graham advocated Donald Trump for dropping nuclear bombs on Iran.
He stated: "It is a war against Islam and Muslims."
This man has just died, but his evil legacy will haunt his soul forever. He will be remembered as one of the worst humans in history.
As I said, we respect the dead, but we must share this with the politicians who are following in his footsteps.
When you die, this will be your legacy: people all over the world will say "Rot in hell" instead of "Rest in peace."
No! I do not want to cling to diplomatic narratives; people need to know who he was and the principles he stood for.
Lindsey Graham war crimes against humanity trial is going to be historic—in hell.
@Ric_RTP OK, now you should follow up on your analysis of Qatar with a review of the U.S., UK, Israel, UAE, and every other colonial power on the planet.
Don't leave out their use of arms to get their way and extend their control. The overall picture won't be pretty.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz: "I said Southern Lebanon would become Gaza. We applied the Rafah model. Destroy everything. 24 villages flattened. 15,000-20,000 homes destroyed. Infrastructure demolished."
Only Israel can brag about committing genocide in broad daylight - and the world calls it "defense."
Israeli settlers, brandishing American made M4s, detained me & other Americans on my trip to Palestine.
When the IDF arrived, they sided with the settlers & continued our detention.
They made a huge mistake.
You will be hearing more soon. https://t.co/rZw8bRAn64
These are graves being dug for more than 160 innocent young girls who were killed in the US-Israeli bombing of a primary school. Their bodies were torn to shreds.
This is how "rescue" promised by Mr. Trump looks in reality.
From Gaza to Minab, innocents murdered in cold blood.
Wow!
Let this sink in: After the first round of US-Iran talks in Islamabad, US intelligence picked up that Israel was planning to assassinate the Iranian negotiators as they were returning to Tehran.
The US told regional states to alert Iran.
Israel is a state that, on paper, is a US partner but in reality is so extreme in its obsession to undermine US diplomacy that it even tries to assassinate those the US engages with in crucial negotiations.
I can't recall a government as terrified of peace as the one running Israel.

Deeply alarmed by the reports that there is an imminent threat to Dr. #HussamAbuSafiya’s life. Israeli authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abu Safiya. Pending his release, we call on the Israeli Prison service to ensure he is fully protected from abuse, granted urgent adequate medical care and allowed immediate visitation by independent monitors.
Act now: https://t.co/NQrwQAgwL9
#FreeDrHussamAbuSafiya
BBC propagandists only needed to speak with Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya's colleagues, as I did. But they chose to regurgitate Israeli LIES.
I asked a Palestinian medic I've known since 2008 when I lived in Gaza, Ahmad abu Foul. He knows Dr. Hussam. He replied:
“Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is originally a pediatrician who worked under the Palestinian Ministry of Health. During the Palestinian division in 2006, he refused to stop working or stay at home and continued providing medical and humanitarian care to serve the Palestinian people.
Later, he was appointed director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza. The hospital belongs to the Medical Services Agency, but during the war it became a government emergency hospital under the Ministry of Interior and the Palestinian Ministry of Health
It is important to note that Kamal Adwan is a specialized children’s hospital and is not affiliated with any military faction. Dr. Abu Safiya is considered one of the most prominent and skilled pediatricians in Gaza, and he was granted the rank of brigadier by the Gaza government due to his work in a government institution.”
I also asked Dr. Omar Shabat ( @DrOmar_shaba ) an orthopedic surgeon in northern Gaza:
“I worked with him for two years during the war. When I wanted to perform surgeries on the injured, we didn’t have an anesthesiologist. Dr. Hussam is a pediatrician, but he told me he would become an anesthesiologist, and that’s exactly what happened; he anesthetized the injured.
Everyone should know that Dr. Hussam is a pediatrician at a hospital called the Military Medical Services Hospital. This hospital assigns military ranks to all employees, but it’s just a title and not an actual responsibility.”

@DropSiteNews likewise noted:
"The New York Post falsely claimed that Dr. Abu Safiya is a “Hamas colonel.” In reality, he served in the Military Medical Services, a government medical body responsible for providing healthcare to police and security personnel, functionally equivalent to a state medical corps rather than a partisan armed group. The article itself inadvertently admits this, writing that “Safiya’s photo appeared on the Gaza Medical Services’ Facebook page — a group overseen by the Hamas-run health ministry,” an admission that Abu Safiya belonged to a government health institution, not an armed faction.
Basem Naim, a senior Hamas official and former Palestinian minister of health, himself a physician with a degree in medicine from Germany, explained that Kamal Adwan Hospital operates through cooperation between the Ministries of Health and Interior, “a model consistent with international norms in public service provision.”
In comments to Drop Site News, he further clarified that Hamas and the Qassam Brigades do not use ranks such as “colonel,” emphasizing that the rank cited belongs to the Palestinian government’s medical corps, not Hamas’s military wing. Naim also stated that the uniform described as “Hamas camo” in the NY Post article has no affiliation with any resistance faction..."

🚨 UPDATE | Israel’s Supreme Court has ordered the state to respond by Tuesday, July 7, to a petition seeking the release of 14 Palestinian doctors from Gaza held without charge, and to specifically address the condition of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, following new allegations that he faces an immediate risk to his life.
The petition was filed by Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) on April 30, but the state has repeatedly received court-approved extensions to respond. After the state sought another delay, PHRI objected, citing new information from Dr. Abu Safiya’s lawyer, Nasser Odeh, who said his client had been subjected to repeated severe beatings, suffered visible injuries, and had deteriorated to the point that he was difficult to recognize.
PHRI has also asked a Supreme Court justice to urgently visit Dr. Abu Safiya in prison and said it will seek an independent cardiologist’s examination and additional lawyer visits amid growing concerns over his health.
Deeply disturbing reports from @PHRIsrael on the condition of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian physician held in Israeli detention without charge for 18+ months. His lawyer reported fresh bruising, injuries, and difficulty breathing and is concerned his life is in immediate danger.
Dr Derek Summerfield: "1,700 health professionals have been killed in Gaza.. a number are in prison.. they wanted to make an example of [Dr Hussam Abu Safiya].. he has clearly been under torture & starvation.. Israel has impunity, impunity is the key to understand these things"
The family of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya says his health has sharply deteriorated after more than 555 days in Israeli prisons.
Dr. Abu Safiya had served as a pediatrician and director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza until he was abducted by Israel in December of 2024. He's been held without charge ever since.
In a video message, Dr. Abu Safiya's son Elyas said his father showed clear signs of torture and medical neglect during a recent meeting with his lawyer in which Dr. Abu Safiya described being beaten with a hammer.
"My father was unable to breathe. My father was unable to speak. His face was disfigured from the marks of torture and pain," Elyas Abu Safiya said. "We still call out, plead, appeal and beg to all the free people of the world, and to everyone with an atom of humanity in their heart, to save my father's life before it's too late."
“This is the last time you will see me. They brought me here to kill me. I don’t see myself surviving. This is the end.”
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan hospital who was abducted by Israeli forces over a year and a half ago and imprisoned without any charges, told his lawyer over this past weekend that he believes that the Israeli government is about to kill him.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was arbitrarily detained on 27 December 2024 by the Israeli military when they raided Kamal Adwan hospital in Mashrou’ Beit Lahiya. Since then, he has been held without charges or trial, under orders that have been indefinitely renewed based on the Unlawful Combatants Law.
On 28 April 2026 an Israeli District Court approved the extension of Abu Safiya’s arbitrary detention under the Unlawful Combatant Law without filing any charges against him.
On 16 June 2026 Israel’s Supreme Court rejected Dr. Abu Safiya’s appeal for his immediate release, upholding the continuation of his arbitrary detention until at least October 2026.
Since 3 June 2026 Abu Safiya is held in solitary confinement exceeding the 15 consecutive days permitted under the Nelson Mandela Rules, which violates the prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment. Authorities are also denying him appropriate care for his health conditions.
@Amnesty is calling for his immediate release. The international community must apply maximum pressure on the Israeli authorities.
*Danger to the life of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya. Please share as much as possible!*
New information received from Adv. Nasser Odeh, the attorney for Dr. Abu Safiya, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who visited Dr. Abu Safiya at the "Rakefet" underground detention facility at Nitzan Prison, indicates a severe deterioration in his condition, to the point of an immediate threat to his life. Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) and his attorney are demanding his immediate transfer from the facility and an urgent visit by a judge to assess his condition firsthand—before it is too late.
Following new information received from a visit conducted by Adv. Nasser Odeh on July 2nd at the "Rakefet" facility in Nitzan Prison:
According to Adv. Odeh's affidavit, Dr. Abu Safiya arrived at the visit handcuffed and shackled, accompanied by masked prison guards. Fresh and severe injuries were visible on his head, around his eyes, on his ears, and on his neck, to the extent that his attorney had difficulty recognizing him. During the visit, Dr. Abu Safiya struggled to breathe and speak continuously; he appeared extremely weak, had difficulty sitting without falling over, and on several occasions leaned backward in a manner that raised concerns that he was about to lose consciousness. According to Adv. Odeh, he appeared terrified and in severe distress, and struggled to express himself for fear of retaliation. It is the attorney's direct and immediate impression that Dr. Abu Safiya is in immediate danger of death.
Dr. Abu Safiya told his attorney that shortly after the hearing (on June 10, 2026) regarding his appeal to the Supreme Court against the extension of his detention order, while he was held in isolation at Ganot Prison, four or five prison guards entered his cell and beat him all over his body, according to him with a hammer and batons. He added that since his transfer on June 24, 2026, to the "Rakefet" facility, he has been subjected to violence and beatings on a daily basis, and has lost consciousness several times, all without receiving adequate medical treatment. He told his attorney that he fears for his life, stating: "This is the last time you will see me... They brought me here to kill me. I am not imagining it. I see it. This is the end."
Following the visit, Adv. Odeh urgently contacted the Israel Prison Service (IPS) demanding an end to the abuse of Dr. Abu Safiya, his immediate transfer to another detention facility, and that he be granted urgent medical examination and treatment due to the real concern for his life.
Furthermore, Physicians for Human Rights has urgently appealed to the Attorney General, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the Chair of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, the National Public Defender, and the Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service, demanding an immediate visit to Dr. Abu Safiya by an official entity outside the IPS, and to allow him an independent medical examination, due to the serious concern for his life.
Despite the High Court of Justice ruling this June against his release, Physicians for Human Rights reiterates its demand to release Dr. Abu Safiya and all other doctors held without charges or trial.
It should be noted that the "Rakefet" facility is an underground interrogation and detention facility at Nitzan Prison, regarding which severe testimonies and allegations of violence and abuse against detainees have been published in the past.
Physicians for Human Rights Israel warns that given Dr. Abu Safiya's health condition and the information provided by his attorney, any delay in intervention could put his life in real danger.
*Danger to life.*
*He must be removed from there! Today.*
