Our Budget Submission 2024 calls for urgent attention to be paid to children's disability services.
Unacceptable waiting lists have existed for years and have been compounded by major issues with recruitment and retention of staff.
The budget should fund a comprehensive workforce planning strategy, this should involve addressing the retention of staff through improving conditions and ensuring pay parity. It should also ensure that the voice of children and their families are at the centre of any improvements to services and take a rights-based approach.
We are concerned at short term fixes such as moving therapists to special schools. Whilst some families welcome this, understandably, it will not fix the more systemic issues.
The whole system needs to be resourced properly and any child who has significant needs should be a priority no matter what location they receive their education.

Nursing Homes are closing at an alarming rate. We need more public capacity and we need sustainable funding in the sector. We also need new safeguarding legislation introduced as quickly as possible. Tomorrow I will move a motion in the Dáil calling for urgent action.

Not one person states we should address the unbelievable poverty that the biggest minority group in Irish society face’s disproportionately compared to their non disabled by a sizeable factor, no-one states we should better the lives of the most marginalised in Irish society and pull them out of the dark pit of poverty.
One person states we should invest in mental health services and we agree but not a single mention of the poverty people find themselves in.

Due to construction works on the Greenway Car Park at the KDL, Mounthawk Park, #Tralee, the car park will be closed to vehicular access on Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June.
Pedestrian access to the Greenway will be maintained throughout this period.
