Gerrard said he “didn’t feel part of a team.”

Ferdinand said club rivalries “killed” them.

Rooney said there were “a lot of big characters.”

Carragher said people saw club players in an England shirt before they saw England players.

Southgate’s real legacy was breaking that.

Tuchel looks like he’s building on it.

This England might not have the best individuals we’ve ever had, but it feels like the most connected England team we’ve had in a very long time.

A good team will always beat great individuals.
