.@SkiEaglePoint says the Cottonwood Fire torched 300 of 600 skiable acres, damaged 4 of 5 lifts, burned several resort buildings and destroyed more than 130 condos/cabins. One lift, the main lodge and snowmaking infrastructure survived.

It may seem odd to have critical fire conditions and snow in the same weekend, but it was actually this approaching storm that raised our fire danger so dramatically this week. Winter-like troughs and dry summer fuel are a dangerous combo.

A cool system is tracking from the PNW, across the northern Rockies this weekend. It has been kicking up winds and creating the extreme fire danger we've seen the last few days. It will also bring cool air and chances for high elevation SNOW to northern Utah by tomorrow.

BREAKING: I just received a photo from my brother's friend showing the lower lodge at Eagle Point Ski Resort consumed in flames.

He has a family cabin in the area and is awaiting word on if it survived the fast moving fire.

I know this is an area so many know and love with years of family memories.

Thinking of all those waiting for word on their properties.

Tuesday - June 23, 2026 9:00p.m.

🔥 The Cottonwood fire has grown to approximately 31,000 acres with 0% containment due to high temperatures, gusty winds, and extremely dry fuels. The fire is very active and exhibiting extreme fire behavior, so please stay alert, stay out of the area and keep an eye on official updates.

🚒 Fire resources remain heavily engaged in proactive structure protection. Multiple interagency Hotshot crews, heavy equipment (such as dozers), Large Air Tankers, and Type 1 structural engines are working aggressively to defend structures, clear hazardous fuels and implement containment lines.

🌲 Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) Team 5 was in-briefed tonight by local Type 3 initial attack resources, and will officially assume command of the incident tomorrow, June 24, 2026. We extend gratitude to the local crews and all responding resources for their ongoing tireless efforts and work to protect the community under grueling conditions.

🚧 A closure order is in place and residents should continue to avoid the entire area including side roads and trails leading to the fire perimeter. See attached map for more details.

⚠️ Mandatory evacuations remain strictly in place for Eagle Point Resort, Merchant Valley, HiLo Estates, and Arrowhead Summer Homes. Property and equipment owners in these areas are being asked by Beaver County Sheriff's Office,Utah to submit information.
