Due to the earthquake that occurred earlier, train service appears to be disrupted in parts of the Kanto region including central Tokyo and on some lines. With the weather bad and it getting late, I sincerely hope that everyone makes it home safely. Additionally, in anticipation of the typhoon expected tomorrow, planned service suspensions are reportedly being considered on some lines (It appears that delays and service suspensions may occur on some sections of the Tokaido Line, the Ito Line, etc, as well as on other conventional lines).
Although it’s the weekend, please stay safe and keep checking for the latest updates.

💡Open-Air Bath Day
Today was designated as Open-Air Bath Day based on the wordplay mnemonic “ro (6) ten (・) bu (2) ro (6).”
An “open-air bath” refers to a bath located outdoors with no roof or walls (or very few)
Please note that open-air baths may or may not contain hot spring minerals (in other words, “open-air bath” and “hot spring” are not synonymous), so caution is advised♨
open-air bath (rotenburo)=露天風呂:ろてんぶろ:rotenburo
wordplay mnemonic=語呂合わせ:ごろあわせ:goroawase
roof=屋根:やね:yane
walls=壁:かべ:kabe
hot spring=温泉:おんせん:onsen

⏰Hint time
At the N2 level, you’ll learn slightly more difficult expressions used in commentary and criticism, as well as confusing expressions used in specific contexts.
Here’s the biggest hint: the kanji is written as 蹴. Since it contains 足 radical, it should be easy to remember!
Can you figure it out from this kanji? If not, take this opportunity to learn it!
Have a good day⚽

This morning, a major earthquake magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale struck Aomori Prefecture. I hope everyone in Japan is safe.
We just had a fairly large earthquake in the Kanto region last week, but since earthquakes (and other natural disasters) strike without warning, please make your safety your top priority.
In addition, heavy rain caused by the rainy season front (I mean, Japanese rainy season TUYU) and typhoons is currently being observed. What’s concerning is that two typhoons are approaching, and forecasts predict heavy rain nationwide from now on.
Currently, Japan has a five-level natural disaster warning system, and Level 4 warnings are in effect for parts of Kyushu and the Chugoku region.
I imagine it can be very unsettling when natural disasters occur in a foreign country.
Whether you’re currently in Japan or planning to visit, I believe knowing just a few simple words and phrases can give you peace of mind, so I’d be happy if you could learn at least one of them.
I sincerely pray for everyone’s safety.

I wonder if this will display properly on a smartphone?
Here’s a link to the Japan Meteorological Agency’s website (English version)!
On this page, you can see where warnings are currently in effect and what level they are! Please be careful!

② かいていた

💡
Why is the verb かく used for snoring?
Just like in はじ を かく (to be embarrassed) or あせ を かく (to sweat), it means “to emit or produce a certain state outwardly.”
Since snoring is an unconscious and uncontrollable action, this verb is likely used for that reason.
Other natural phenomena—such as “hiccups:しゃっくり, yawning:あくび, burping:げっぷ, sneezing:くしゃみ, and coughing:せき”—use verbs like が でる or を する
が+でる is an intransitive verb, indicating that something comes out naturally.
を+する is a transitive verb used when you know something is about to come out or when you haven’t held it back.
“Things that come out more unconsciously: が+でる”
Hiccups: しゃっくり
>
Yawns: あくび ≒ Burps: げっぷ
>
Sneezes: くしゃみ ≒ Coughs: せき
“Things that can potentially be held back or controlled; を+する”
