Hello new Brazilian followers!
I am not Brazilian. I know nothing about Brazilian politics or issues, and I am not a conservative. I'd love if you continued following me, but I want you to be aware that I am probably not who you think I am.
“Alex Tabarrok writes about how when the FDA fails to approve a good drug, people die but the bodies are buried in an invisible graveyard. I’d like to make that graveyard a little bit more visible. I’m going to be buried in it, in a few weeks or months.” https://t.co/KNByj92wai

People insufficiently acquainted with written SF sometimes think that Isaac Asimov invented the concept of aligning AGI. Actually, Asimov pioneered the concept of literature treating AGIs as causal systems that did things for reasons.
...where the problem is then that *to be fair play as literature* there can be no such thing as a bug, or an attempt at alignment that plain didn't work, because how is the reader supposed to predict the result of that or see it as a lawful plot development?
death the kid is literally such a funny character. hes named after billy the kid and has 2 guns which you think "okay maybe hes a cowboy character" but ur wrong. he rides a skateboard and you think "okay maybe hes a cool kid" also wrong. hes a neurodivergent gay godling
I'm endlessly horrified about the academic system's concept of an A in an easy course contributing to a higher average grade than a B in a hard course, thereby incentivizing everyone to avoid hard courses. Dath ilani 8-year-olds would know better than this.
As Biden cancels (some) student debt, remember why the debt exists. A key Reagan advisor warned in 1970 that free college was producing the dangerously explosive "dynamite" of an "educated proletariat," and "we have to be selective on who we allow to go through higher education":
@pookleblinky@tene I think the former is simply a symptom of the latter.
Let's fix the latter, and likely the former will take care of itself.
And, conversely, without fixing the latter, any attempt at the former will be in vain.
Many autistic people go through life feeling inept, because *everything* they do is criticised for being “wrong”. The truth is that there are *many* valid ways to do things, and if someone doesn’t recognise that, then they’re closed-minded and the issue lies with them - not you.
It has now been almost a month, and there has been no explanation from the New York Times about how it let one of its reporters lie to the public about California’s elections in a front page article with a reach estimated at almost 200 million people. No apparent consequences.
All over the country, in every city I go to, one thing emerges: when people actually know the facts and are presented with genuine choices, they choose investments in the root causes of violence, not more armed government bureaucrats. https://t.co/UtoGeUZ1ve
