An IPS officer in West Bengal, Dr Bushara Bano, has been transferred from her post as Additional SP of Kharagpur, with the state government citing “public interest”.

The transfer came hours after a right-wing group complained about a YouTube video in which Bano spoke about her journey to the civil services and credited Aligarh Muslim University’s Residential Coaching Academy for helping her prepare for the UPSC exams.

The BJP government’s move was criticised by TMC MP Mahua Moitra, who questioned the transfer over Bano’s use of phrases such as “Assalamu Alaikum” and “Inshallah”.
