Two Argentinians pulling him down and stopping him challenge for the ball... no VAR check and no Pen.
I don't think we are ready for the levels FIFA corruption we are about to witness on Wednesday... 🤯
When Cape Verde started taking control, every major decision suddenly went Argentina’s way.
When Egypt looked ready to go three goals clear, the referee found a reason to wipe one off.
When Switzerland threatened to complete the turnaround, a Swiss player was conveniently sent off.
You can look away all you want, but the pattern is becoming impossible to ignore. The favouritism is glaring, and the stench of corruption is everywhere.
Not trying to defend the dive but letting Argentina get away with clear yellow cards all game and then do a review to get a player sent off just after Switzerland scored a goal is just ridiculous.
A Complete Refutation of this Messi vs Ronaldo Article
If you think you can compare and determine superiority of one player over another statistically, you have to develop, justify, and execute sound methodology - which you purposefully do not Michael for partisan reasons. I will deconstruct this.
First, the dataset used is fundamentally in its timeline is squarely strongly biased in Messi's favor: it includes his prime years, and excludes his pre-prime years, WHILE excluding Ronaldo's prime years (data only from 2009/10 season when Barca and Messi were best in the world): https://t.co/pfdO4oJ1jX
Ronaldo was in his physical prime, and was crowned the clear best player in the world by the BDor and FIFA POTY, after also being runner up the season before.
When he came to challenge Messi in his own home turf (La Liga), he was the NUMBER ONE BALL CARRIER in the WORLD: "When he came to Spain, nobody ran with the ball more than Ronaldo." source: https://t.co/eloGZhrBNX
His game evolved. Over time, he converted into a center forward. While Messi switched from a Right wing forward to center forward and invariably switched between both for a while.
The goalscoring numbers cannot be analyzed in a vacuum. Yes, Messi maintained high-scoring numbers against weaker teams for the entirety of his career. But this is not the case when you look at the composition of goals:
- Declining numbers in UCL KOs. Absent goals in WC and Copa KOs.
- No goals in tough away UCL matches (KOs QF and beyond).
While Ronaldo maintained and INCREASED his output in this setting.
To do so requires adapting his game substantially. You can hide Messi's decline in goalscoring by aggregating goals vs weak opponents, but there is an opportunity cost here: against strong opponents, the goals dry up.

The aggregate stats: progressive passes, xA, etc. are strongly correlated with possession-based teams. Higher volume of actions reflects style, not just substance. This is an important confounder. Of course, you won't find a single player during Messi's time of activity with more touches since the sample you took is... Messi's career! We know Messi had the most touches during his time as an active player - so what exactly is the data saying?
You took the time to separate non-penalty goals from goals. Are penalties not a quality of a great player? Whether winning them or scoring them? Is that not football? So why did you exclude them from your analysis, but included chances and assists from dead ball situations (free kicks, corners) which Messi takes thousands - and Ronaldo none?
Again, the analysis is thoroughly biased.
Lastly, you have NOT justified the stats that you chose to use in your analysis BEYOND the egregious exclusion of Ronaldo's peak years of activity. What happened to recovery runs, sprints, dummy runs, positional discipline, consistency of activity throughout a match, consistency of scoring cross-competitions, winning / clutch goals? Why did you pick and choose the stats you decided to pick which model and describe Messi's playstyle - but do not capture Ronaldo's?
This is an utter failure.

EVERY midfield Bruno is in is either unbalanced or just doesn’t work at all.
They even gave him a back to back UCL winning pivot and he STILL managed to make it look disjointed. This is the player he is, he makes everything around him
Mediocre for his own gain. SELL SELL SELL.
Another big tournament Bruno’s stunk it up in, I’m not even surprised that’s been him in his whole tenure at United
Never turns up in the big occasions, only turns up when there’s nothing on the line. Biggest fraud out there
One dead rubber every 3 weeks because he wrote their season off by November and finished in bottom half of the one before it so they had no European football at all either.

34 league titles and 18 CLs between them.
All suffered when playing with Bruno Fernandes that has 0 league titles and never won a CL knockout game.
Not a coincidence. He's cancerous to his team mates.
Cristiano Ronaldo had TWO forward passes played to him at the World Cup.
1. His second goal against Uzbekistan
2. The offside goal against Croatia.
Guess who will be blamed? Guess who the fingers will be pointed to? Portugals golden generation are nothing but a bunch of spineless cowards.
