@K_Niemietz Plane tickets and groceries are not bought up by the $60 trillion a year of global investment that can happily take a low to no return on an a property if it offers diversification or potential capital appreciation.
@Catniptwoshoes He's identifying the problems with financial escape velocity - that if at a certain level assets create enough return to just continually buy more assets. He's correct that this is an ultimately unsustainable system, but those benefiting have no desire to change it.
@LSM9926@PiersUncensored@piersmorgan@garyseconomics@K_Niemietz The demand part also includes demand for investment and returns, which is completley detached from how many actually need or live in houses. If Blackrock chooses to deploy ยฃ800b into buying UK family homes to rent out, what do you think happens to the price of family homes?
@DoinSumin@Adam_Bradford14@Cassidy_Rob Vardy was in the youth academy for Sheffield Wednesday but got dropped at 16 and then went to play in lower leagues and worked his way back up.
@StacyBehr@PlatoonPod They're not picking 1 player, more building a constantly evolving pipeline that have the earliest signs of potential and developing them over the next decade with a few of them actually making it. Like angel investing most fail, but the winners pay back enough to justify it
@Joeyrandomguy@PlatoonPod Typically it's 30+ handpicked kids from local youth teams, schools + open trials with potential who get to play throughout the summer holidays but many don't make it into the academy when the full recruitment happens as kids scouted from further afield compete for places.
@Joeyrandomguy@PlatoonPod When I worked at Man City, they would invite parents of kids this age to play at their training facilities in pre-academy development sessions. They can only join an academy properly at 9 years old.
@chrisman On average more obese and less likely to play competitive sport as kids. You've had a handful of outliers that with investment have had amazing individual careers - Phelps, S. Biles, M. Johnson, S. Williams, T. Woods but not really dominated any international sport consistently.
@Realityist@AIdevdove@NobletStrength A good academy pays for itself many times over when a graduate is sold, like West Ham selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for ยฃ100m.
@markvalorian By the time American athletes are considering their options to play AF, basketball etc at college, the world's best football (soccer) players have already worked through the academy system for over a decade and are playing professionally for the best teams.
@nkwatkins@HLTCO What absolute drivel, we put the bids in for world cups whenever our continent was eligible - 2006/2018 and would see a good return on any investment, just like the Olympics in 2012
@2147mill Neo-banking/Fintech, traditional banks are are gonna get caught in a death spiral, over the next 10 years you'll see digital first banks eat into every financial sector and become behemoths of finance in the same Amazon did with retail.
@CoreyWriting American team will probably keep getting better but it will more likely be from footballing nations casting their youth scouting nets further and bringing kids over to their academies at ages young enough to mold them from basics.
@Kharn_300BO@idobadtakes Yes, if you can rent at below market value and not be forced to move on the whim of your landlord it becomes a lot easier to not go into debt and build savings on a median wage for your kids to inherit when you pass away.
@GenieSwanstrom@DrSuneelDhand@ranboy American "variety" is an illusion, i.e the cereal section will be huge with 100 different sugar coated brands all owned by the same conglomerate. Euro food is less brand dominated and more ingredient/trend driven, i.e atm granola, oats and high protein products are taking over.
@SteveMinecaft67@Pugsley98@Year_of_Jubilee That specific food combo - chunk of bread, lump of cheese and a raw onion (washed down with ale) is what most farm workers would eat from the 13th century to the 18th century, it's called a ploughmans - the simplicity of being uncooked and cheap is the entire heritage of it.
