@JustinWStapley I don’t see this happening. Romney was more or less a managerial type, not an ideologue.
He probably would have gone harder on Syria but the stakes there are next to nothing. I think with Russia he probably would have been closer to Obama.
Honestly the fact that near-universal accessibility of rideshare services has done nothing for DUI fatalities says something incredibly damning about this kind of offender
Whatever we do to them needs to be extremely punishing
Is there anyone more overrated in the corporate press than Mehdi Hasan?
He is constantly wrong about objective facts (I love how he misused the word “incumbent”), he is insufferably arrogant, he is unrelatable, and he just bullies and browbeats people with bullshit.
Sure he has a nice English accent but that is a dime a dozen.
The Civil Rights Act had a 59% approval rating. I know it's fun to pretend that the correct stance was always unpopular so you can pretend your enemies will be the bad guys of future period pieces but the majority of the country was actually convinced on this.
@PunishedRWR That and the NATO membership was not a forgone conclusion. You need all of NATO to support it and there were nations like Hungary who definitely wouldn’t. And Germany and France probably would block it if the invasion never happened.
I will go further with this. Banned books are a marketing tool. You get some deep red county in Alabama to ban your book and you get prime real estate at Barnes and Noble to hawk your book.
Moreover you get liberal boomers buying it, feeling cheeky, and giving it to their grandkids.
It is a sweet tradeoff. You trade in getting banned in some deep red county for prime marketing.
America’s culture of free speech is so strong that our idea of a “banned book” is “a school board in Nowhere, Kansas said it shouldn’t be in the curriculum and now every ninth grader in the country reads it”.
DSA's National Political Committee is planning to meet tonight to discuss whether to unendorse and/or expel Nithya Raman, a DSA member and Los Angeles mayoral candidate endorsed by the socialist org's Los Angeles chapter.
@ijbailey This sounds more like an “unruly parents don’t know how to follow the rules” kind of issue than anything else.
Ask any little league ump, or soccer/pop warner ref. Parents are out of control.
I don't know why Nate Silver has to "live down" predicting a 30% chance Trump would win in 2016. Things with 30% likelihood still happen all the time! 30% of the time in fact!
1) another black person called the police
2) it was on the kid’s parents because they were recording other people’s kids during the game
3) no trespass citation was given
I would file this under parents not knowing how to behave at their kid’s games not racism.
Which if you talk to any umpire or referee for youth sports, it is a big issue. Parents are out of control.
Ms. Rachel blasts a children's soccer league for "racism" after a child's parents claim the cops were called on him for being "too good" at soccer.
The man who called the police is black. He called the police because the boy's parents were being disruptive.
Is there a single hoax she won't believe?
This is an interesting way of looking at it but I have a slightly different view.
I think more people launder “things they like” into the idea of “democracy.”
For example, how many times have you heard that “Democracy was saved” after an election? That begs the question, “What if the ‘other side’ won?” Shouldn’t we get to “democracy is saved” when we figure out that it was a free and fair election?
Nobody really believes in Democracy, when it comes right down to it. Everybody thinks there are things that are just simply correct and if those things are unpopular, then their politicians should just do it anyway, because there is a higher principle than popularity.
