The pace of change with AI developer tools is so rapid that it completely upends normal budgeting processes for public companies. An additional challenge of operating at large scale is trying to expose to users their usage and efficiency, when the tools themselves are immature.
I’m seeing lots of wild inferences around Uber spend on AI for software engineering. The work to try and measure impact of AI developer tooling across > 5k engineers is… not straightforward. The scale of such a large engineering org is unfamiliar to most.
I’d love to see Opus 4.6 or Codex 5.3 be given the docs and TCL tests for SQLite and try to recreate it.
Analyze the result by running against the three other test harnesses and the OOM, Fuzz, I/O error, crash, undefined behavior and boundary value tests. Points for size + perf.
@dhh To the original point, I think that generally the answer is quality and freshness of ingredients. In the US we ship perishable food 3000+ miles regularly from CA to the Northeast. In France all food can make it to central distribution and back out again in a day.
@dhh The best I’ve found in the states so far is the King Arthur Baking Company in VT. I attribute it to being a baking school, flour company and having access to local high-quality dairy from VT farms. Better than the best recommendations I’ve had when visiting SF or Seattle.
@LewisCTech Many more advanced options beyond HTTP 1.0 have been built, but arguably the complexity is only worth it for some cases. See grpc, http v3, web sockets.
@LewisCTech@NickChapmn Have you studied relational algebra at all? The theoretical foundation of SQL is why I think it has such staying power. Note, there have been and continue to be many implementations of SQL, it just happens to be pretty frontend for expressing what records you want to retrieve.
@MailchimpHelp I regularly (~50% of the time) get server status error pages trying to unsubscribe from email lists. The page says to contact support, but your support page requires an account. Please fix your unsubscribe servers!!!
What happened to Mailchimp? It seems a scam that 50% of the time I hit an unsubscribe link I get a Mailchimp error page saying they can’t process my request.
@bubblebuddy1694 Thanks for the heads up! Been sick the past few days, but I’ll get Postgres restarted. I need to debug why it’s gone down a few times recently.
@adamwathan@jonnywilliamson@wesbos 5800 sq ft here - UniFi APs. Super powerful, but very friendly. You probably want the Cloud Gateway Max, and then APs. Mesh or PoE (better speed). Definitely run cat6 while you have everything open. I have a gateway, core switch and then APs and utility switches in hub/spoke.
@adamwathan Just make sure your heat exchangers have water sensors in case your condensate drains for AC get clogged. Fairly standard for recent construction/renovation but worth double checking.
@adamwathan The highest end ecobees if you run iOS - nest if you run android. 7 ecobees here – use to have Honeywell, app was terrible. Also get smart switches for your outdoor lights and set up sunset / sunrise automation.
