@frankvonhippel standing next the memorial to the massive Good Friday Earthquake in Alaska in 1964. It was a terrible day for many Alaskans, but provided an opportunity for us to team up and study the genomics of stickleback evolution in just decades. Thanks @NSF for the support.
Thank you for sharing this key finding of our collective team’s work done together with our community and scientific advisory board and team members with lived experiences! @dave_degarmo@wcresko and twitterless Stephanie DeAnda and Jorge Ramirez-Garcia! @UO_PSI
@DanielBolnick I’ll be In Anchorage the 30th as well and picking up folks at the airport around 11pm. Maybe dinner at Moose’s Tooth? We can touch base in a couple days. Happy trapping.
Just dropped traps in Rabbit Slough and realized it was 30 years to almost the day that I put my first traps in that beautiful mosquito blessed creek by the highway.
Back in Alaska for some field work and thinking a lot about everything that Susan Foster and John Baker taught me. Now to put the dry suit back on to see what the stickleback are doing. Thank you S & J.
I’m thrilled to announce that I will be joining @uvabio as an Assistant Professor in January 2024! My lab will be studying the evolutionary genomics of sexual conflict using genetic engineering & experimental evolution in Caenorhabditis nematodes. More details to come! 🪱🧬🔬🧡💙

Sharing this in case it's useful: I find that students often have a hard time conceptualizing quantitative parameters in genomics and popgen
Here's a cheat-sheet I put together for teaching. It's also part of a textbook I have been writing on human genetics (more on that below)
Our DREAM paper is out: We found the first master regulator of DNA repair capacities! Read and re-tweet now: The DREAM complex functions as conserved master regulator of somatic DNA repair capacities, @CECAD_@UKKoeln@UniCologne

I’ve been at the bench the last few weeks setting up reactions, running gels, organizing my notebook…. After years of not I am realizing what a treat it is to be in the moment and the flow. Best part; I apparently haven’t lost too many steps (to my students’ clear surprise).
