"Hurt" is not an original by Johnny Cash. The song was written by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) in 1994 for the album The Downward Spiral. Rick Rubin had to insist several times on Cash recording his version, at first Johnny found the idea completely insane because the original version is industrial and noisy. At 71, already very ill, almost blind and with trembling hands, Cash completely transformed the band.

The iconic video, directed by Mark Romanek, was filmed at the House of Cash (his own museum). June Carter Cash appears looking at him fondly, the video was shot in February 2003, a few months before she died (May) and Johnny himself (September).

Trent Reznor was so moved that he declared, "This song is not mine anymore." It is considered one of the best covers of all time.

Fun fact: If Americans protested the IRS the way they protest LAW ENFORCEMENT DOING THEIR JOBS, America would be a much better place.

Imagine mass rallies, traffic shutdowns, and endless media coverage every time TAX SEASON came around.

Imagine NEWS AND SOCIAL MEDIA aflame whenever the IRS RAPES US, instead of when a felon gets cuffed - or an ILLEGAL gets removed.

Tax offices would face the same level of scrutiny and public pressure as police departments do.

Politicians on both sides would rush to "reform" the tax code to avoid the backlash.

The national debt conversation would actually happen instead of being ignored.

Government overreach on taxes would get called out as loudly as overreach in policing.

Accountability for bureaucrats would match the demands placed on law enforcement.

Real criminals might get more consistent attention if our PEACEFUL PROTEST ENERGY focused where the biggest theft happens.

Taxes could drop, the code could simplify, and fiscal responsibility might actually improve.

This is MY American Dream.
