2015 I have a soul sucking job in Boston

Completely lost as a human being

My boss asks me to code a gay dating app

What I did next changed my entire life and put me on a trajectory to where I am today:

At the time the company I worked for was trying to sell analytics software to Grindr

In order to demo the software to them, my boss wanted me to build a demo dating app

So I spend the week programming the app for my iPhone

I add all my male coworkers for a little fun (some appreciated it)

Up to this point I had 0 confidence in my life

I got terrible grades in every level of education

I was 3 months removed from getting fired from my last job

I was 25 and 100% convinced I was a moron who was going to lead a mediocre life

I ship the app to my boss and they run the demo

Next day Grindr buys the software for hundreds of thousands of dollars

My boss sends an email out to the entire company the praising my work. Saying it was instrumental in the deal

This email changed my life. No joke

It was legit the first encouragement I got in a professional setting after years of compounding failure

It was at that moment I realized what I was capable of

If I truly applied myself and put in work, I could actually improve as a human being. I wasn't some idiot like I convinced myself I was

This is where my whole ‘1% better every day’ mindset stems from

Before this moment I never really put in an effort to get better because I had 0 confidence

Now I realized if I spent a little time learning something new, I actually get more powerful

And if I were to do that every day, the possibilities would be endless

I went back that night and taught myself HTML 5

And I haven’t stopped learning since

NFT God doesn’t exist unless I find the confidence I gained from building that app

No joke

It sounds ridiculous, but one small opportunity, one small decision and effort can light a spark in you that changes your life

If you’re reading this and you’re like I was, kinda lost and not sure what to do with your life, keep fighting

Keep searching for that spark that will wake something up in you
