Before scholars racialized as Black got jobs at PWIs, scholars racialized as White were deficit framing TF out of the Black Americans. Now, we spend more time correcting these falsehoods before we can even move the needle forward in our areas of expertise.
#OnThisDay in 1961, 27 Freedom Riders, headed for New Orleans, were arrested as soon as they arrived in the bus station in Jackson, Mississippi. Many of the riders were sentenced to two months inside Mississippi’s worst prison, Parchman.
Within a few months, police arrested more than 400 Freedom Riders. Eric Etheridge features portraits of the Riders (then and now) in his book, “Breach of Peace.” Their journeys are captured in Raymond Arsenault’s book, “Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice,” and Stanley Nelson’s documentary, “Freedom Riders.” Photographs of all the Riders can be seen in the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.

4 yrs ago, George Floyd was killed after his life was cut short by a police officer's knee to his neck. George’s story will forever inspire those fighting to put an END to police brutality. Today, we send love to his family and remember the national movement his death sparked! 🙏🏿
I am proud to say I accepted the Black and Indigenous Feminism Futures Institute Post Doctoral Fellowship at UVA! This weekend, I am finally taking it all in and celebrating with my community. A full year as Dr. Daisy E. Guzman Nunez and starting on a new journey.
Our beloved colleague, Prof. Willoughy-Herard bravely speaking truth to power. Earlier she was thrown to the ground and violently arrested. Black feminist voices for justice in Palestine will not be silenced! @blkwomenradical@ScholarsForSJ

So much for @BestBuy corner support. Provided the info as requested and….. crickets. It’s been 3 days and still no resolution. They promised I could pick up my items in-store 12/16. 😡😡😡
Don’t shop with @BestBuy! I am a loyal customer and drop all my money here on appliances to tech. I am living a nightmare trying to replace a stolen package supposedly delivered by @FedEx—thieves! No delivery verification! 1/2
@BestBuy PROMISED pick up TODAY at nearest store with the items in stock which is a 30 minute drive from my house. They “verifying” that I’m not a fraud! Progress on order fulfillment hasn’t moved. WTH. My brand loyalty about to be GONE! 2/2
Don't share the video & traumatize people in your lives. Send love to Tyre Nichols' family & NEVER stop calling for justice. Cops killed more people last yr than any other year. Don't tell us to be peaceful. We're angry & scared. We're fighting for our lives & our families.

“What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.” —Frederick Douglass, 1852
