Well, there is a new development: on June 14, 2024, the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill 2024 was presented to Parliament in yet another attempt to pass the long-overdue bill.

We demand the withdrawal of the appointment of parliamentary aspirants to SOEs. Apart from the insensitivity to our economic situation, the deepening politicization of parastatals and expansion of the bad governance of appointing MPs to sit on board of SOEs is a real worry.

We demand Cabinet approval and laying of the Conduct of Public Office Holders Bill to regulate our weak asset and liabilities disclosure regime, gift giving in the public service, influence peddling, and conflict of interest, among other public ethics behaviors. @KojoPumpuni

In the coming days, I shall be sponsoring a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to expressly prevent politicians and politically exposed persons from participating directly or indirectly in the purchase of state assets.

The objective will be to legally block all loopholes in the current legal regime which some politicians appear to be exploiting.

After 16 years of crusading against politicians purchasing state assets under conflict of interest, opaque, abuse of power and unethical circumstances; I believe it is time to have a strong piece of legislation with deterrent sanctions to end the canker.
