The decline of Asmara is heartbreaking, a real example of how dictatorship destroys cities and nations. 💔
Eritreans are suffering under Isaias Afwerki’s rule, as he has turned Eritrea into an open-air prison, the North Korea of Africa. #Eritrea#Asmara#Africa
If Ethiopia refuses to respect the African Union’s core principle of upholding colonial borders (OAU 1964), then the AU should seriously consider relocating its headquarters from Addis Ababa. A host country must honor the laws and values of the institution it hosts.
Ethiopia has no legal claim to Assab (Eritrea):
✅ Eritrea’s borders, including Assab, are internationally recognized.
✅ Algiers Agreement + EEBC ruling confirmed the border.
✅ AU 1964 principle: colonial borders must be respected.
✅ UN Charter bans force to take land.
Key International Law Supporting Eritrea’s Sovereignty:
🔹 OAU/AU 1964 Border Principle – Colonial borders must be respected to avoid conflict in Africa.
🔹 UN Charter Article 2(4) – Prohibits use of force against the territorial integrity of any state.
It’s deeply concerning to see some circulating maps showing Assab (an Eritrean port) as part of Ethiopia. This violates colonial borders and international agreements, including the OAU's 1964 principle of respecting inherited borders. Such actions risk fueling dangerous conflict.
International law does NOT allow a landlocked country to own the sea or a port from a neighbor — no matter how close it is (60 km or less).
They can only get access through peaceful agreement, not force, and not ownership
Ethiopia has zero legal claim to own or take Assab.
It can only negotiate access through peaceful agreements with Eritrea.
Any attempt to use force is illegal and dangerous.
Some Ethiopian leaders and elites are openly suggesting the use of force to take Assab Port from Eritrea.
This is unacceptable and a serious threat to regional peace.
Eritrea must take this issue to the UN Security Council immediately. International law must be respected.
"Sad to see the AU led from Ethiopia—a country that threatens to take Eritrea’s Assab port by force. How can the AU preach peace and sovereignty when its host violates both? Africa deserves better leadership. #Eritrea#Assab#AU#Africa"
under current international law, Ethiopia does not have the legal right to claim that Assab is part of its territory. Assab is part of Eritrea, which is a sovereign and independent country.
"If Ethiopia tries to take Assab from Eritrea by force and the world stays silent, it could ignite a regional war and destabilize the Horn of Africa. Worse, it risks collapsing colonial-era borders—threatening the stability of every African country. Africa can't afford this."
