The New York Times always manages to demonstrate the innovative spirit of the American media when discussing China.

It has discovered a fascinating new form of geopolitics — again:

We started the fire.
China built firewalls.
China prevented the fire from burning through its own economy.
China’s demand adjustment even helped keep the global oil shock from becoming worse.

And somehow the conclusion is:

China has become too powerful.
China’s ability to survive our fire is evidence of its ambition to dominate the world.

China was supposed to remain vulnerable.

It was supposed to panic when Hormuz closed, beg producers for supply, and absorb the price shock like everyone else.

Instead, it spent years building reserves, refining capacity, EVs, rail, coal substitution and energy redundancy.

So now resilience itself is being rewritten as “domination.”

America creates the crisis.
China survives the crisis.
Western media calls survival a threat.

If China refuses to play the villain, the narrative will write the role for it anyway.

And this is what one prolonged war is already doing to the U.S. Navy:
carriers stretched to record deployments, sailors reaching breaking point, ships pulled from Asia, maintenance strain, and now an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer sitting powerless for four days in the South China Sea.

Washington spent decades selling the image of a military that could dominate every theater at once.

Reality is less cinematic.

An empire can have bases everywhere and still discover that it cannot be everywhere at once.

And this is against Iran.

Imagine trying to sustain a major war against a peer industrial power across the Pacific while simultaneously maintaining Europe, the Middle East, Korea, Japan and the rest of the global empire.

That is the part the war-game graphics never show: ships need repairs. sailors need sleep. carriers cannot teleport. logistics do not obey propaganda.

America’s problem is no longer simply whether it has the strongest military.
It is whether that military can survive the ambitions Washington keeps assigning to it.

شركة Anthropic فعلت ذلك ضمن مشروع سري يُدعى (Project Panama) واشترت ملايين الكتب ثم تخلصت منها بعد المسح.

واليوم تستمر الممارسة عبر وسطاء يشترون بالجملة كتب ما قبل 2022 لأنها (نظيفة) من محتوى الذكاء الاصطناعي.

القانون الأمريكي يعتبرها حالياً مشروعة، لكن بائعي الكتب النادرة يحذرون من اختفاء نسخ تاريخية لا يمكن تعويضها.

وثيقة مسربة من Anthropic تكشف مشروع “بنما”: تدمير ملايين الكتب لتدريب الذكاء الاصطناعي

كشفت وثيقة مسربة من شركة Anthropic (الشركة المطورة لنموذج Claude) عن مشروع سري يُدعى “Project Panama”، يهدف إلى المسح التدميري لكل كتب العالم.

حسب الوثيقة نفسها:
• “مشروع بنما هو جهودنا لمسح كل كتب العالم بشكل تدميري”.

• “لا نريد أن يُعرف أننا نعمل على هذا”.

تفاصيل ما حدث حسب التقرير:
1. بدأت الشركة بسرقة 7 ملايين كتاب من مواقع القرصنة لتدريب Claude، لأن الرئيس التنفيذي اعتبر دفع حقوق المؤلفين “أمرًا مرهقًا”.

2. بعد رفع دعاوى قضائية ضدها، حاولت الحصول على موافقات قانونية من الناشرين، فرفضوا.

3. لجأت إلى ثغرة قانونية:
شراء ملايين الكتب الورقية الحقيقية، ثم قطع أغلفتها بشفرة هيدروليكية، مسح الصفحات، وإتلاف الكتب (رميها في إعادة التدوير).

أحد الموردين عرض تدمير مليونين كتاب خلال 6 أشهر فقط (حوالي 11 ألف كتاب يوميًا).

4. المفارقة القانونية:
إذا مسحت الكتاب واحتفظت بالنسخة الأصلية فهو جريمة، أما إذا مسحته ثم أتلفته فيُعتبر “استخدامًا عادلاً” (Fair Use). وقد وافق قاضٍ على هذا المنطق.

5. دفعت الشركة في النهاية 1.5 مليار دولار كتسوية حقوق نشر (أكبر تسوية في التاريخ)، أي حوالي 3000 دولار لكل كتاب. لكن النسخ الرقمية بقيت محبوسة في مكتبة Anthropic الخاصة إلى الأبد، بينما حصل المؤلفون على كتاب ممزق ولا شيء آخر.

الكتاب الورقي يعيش مئات السنين دون كهرباء أو إنترنت، بينما النموذج الذي دُمرت الكتب من أجله يُستبدل خلال 18 شهرًا تقريبًا.
