@yosoymario91@dvb_eck What’s your logic for no vegetables? I started focusing on eating more veg, beans etc recently and can’t say I felt any better - worse if anything.
@larpcapitalwc@socktickler The comparison isn’t between spending time with kids or travelling though. It’s between buying some overpriced brand or making memories seeing the world
Yvon Chouinard’s (the founder of Patagonia) book “let my people go surfing” opened my eyes to this. Too many people are falling into the trap of capitalism - working for works sake to consume things you don’t need. No real hobbies - work 9-5, drink on the weekend, repeat.
He talks about a time where he was running a business crafting climbing gear. He had minimal items, a car, few clothes, and would take his gear with him and sleep rough. Everything in his life was designed to allow him to climb. He eventually started Patagonia, where he strived to make the best quality clothing he could. He’d use the money to a) free up time to live a life by nature - surfing, bouldering etc… and b) do philanthropic work.
Made me realise you can go either way within capitalism, just don’t get trapped.
@kieralwellness Easily one of the most destructive habits.
I notice anytime I start the day on my phone, the rest of the day is spent chasing quick dopamine hits - like B.F Skinner's rat's, compulsively pressing a lever for food.
