Hii! π
We're a comment system for your Jekyll or Hugo website. We hook into the build process of your site & pre-render comments as 100% static HTML.
@fjmd1 Yup!
Currently there's no active development on it, but costs are small and we'll keep things running.
Definitely want to get back to active development at some point but haven't found the time.
@tamalweb @Paul_Kinlan By default, we're using @akismet to automatically filter out spam. If you want, you can go to https://t.co/3GHiXW1vnA and enable manual moderation in the settings. That way, no comment goes through unless you explicitly approve it.
There are also some other basic controls :-)
@andrewlobo Yup, it is! It has been running for a year and will keep on running, as there are about 40 websites (including my personal one) that depend on it :-) There's some UI and behind the scenes work happening, stay tuned!
@raymondcamden Amazing!!!!
You can send it as an attachment or maybe a Google Drive link to [email protected]. I'll anonymize the data. As a thank you, I'll donate $25 to a good cause of your choosing. -iiro
@raymondcamden Ah, no worries. Thanks for the interest though!
It would've been primarily to help you with your blog, but since you have a humongous amount of comments, it would've been pretty interesting to run the Disqus import file through Welcomments importer and see how badly it explodes.
@raymondcamden 3/2:
Docs are coming later this week, and you can influence how they look like! If you have anything that's on your mind, again, please don't hesitate to send some mail to [email protected] !
@raymondcamden 2/2:
I noticed you had tons of existing comments on your site - if you could supply the disqus.xml.gz file you get from the Disqus admin panel and send that to [email protected], I can make the existing comments work so that people can reply to them π
Looking for prerendered static HTML comments for your Hugo blog? Look no further!
Here's how it works:
1. User submits a comment
2. We commit it to your GitHub repository
3. Netlify rebuilds your Hugo site.
4. such HTML. much static. wow.π
Set it up in less than 2 minutes π
@raymondcamden When installing to a repository through the Welcomments console, you choose the static site generator you're using. Based on that, we save the correct comment folder path and set you up with appropriate templates. 11ty support is not there yet, but is being worked on right now!
@raymondcamden Yeah, fair point. For example, if you're using Hugo, it will write to "data/welcomments" folder of your repository. But we should have this documented.
If you have other questions, please reach out to [email protected] and we'll answer those in the upcoming docs as well.
Do you feel like this when browsing https://t.co/lurppVkvBn or https://t.co/zlf2GGQ9UP during night time? Us too! But not to worry, we now have an experimental dark mode for our website and the admin console π go ahead and check it out!
We had a pretty busy last 5 weeks!
In a nutshell:
- 14 new users and 8 websites using Welcomments
- Hugo support
- more resilient GitHub integration, support for organizations

1. Go to https://t.co/1QToW5wCn9, click "export"
2. Disqus sends you a link. Open it & download the file.
3. Send it as an attachment to [email protected].
We'll also need to know your website id which you can find from the Welcomments console π
