YouTube is doubling the monetization bar from 1 Feb 2027: 8,000 watch hours or 20M Shorts views, up from 4K/10M.
For brands, this raises the cost of finding monetized creators. Proven rosters matter more when the open market gets harder to qualify.

At 35, I did the math no pitch deck prepares you for.
Freeze the eggs. Find a boyfriend. Keep the company alive.
Same season.
Tell me again founders can separate life from work.
In 2015, a 5-year exit wasn't a dream.
It was the schedule.
My generation showed up right as the schedule got cancelled.
What did you build your life around before the market changed its mind?
At 30, I made a rule: no dating until I raised my Series A.
The market never signed that agreement.
What did you postpone for a milestone that never came?
Spite is rocket fuel.
It can get you off the ground before you know where you're going.
But it can't steer. At some point, anger burns out and something truer has to take over.
What kept you going after the fire ran out?
No one teaches girls to become the provider.
We're taught to be chosen, then quietly expected to carry the bills, the parents, the company, the life.
You learn provision with no syllabus.
Tell me I'm wrong.
I kept waiting for the humbling to turn into a lesson.
It didn't.
No neat ending. No cash-out. No redeemed-by-success arc.
I was humbled beyond what I thought I could survive. That was not the setup.
That was the story.
What part are you still trying to make useful?
Someone asked what I was proud of.
My first honest answer was: nothing.
The second took longer: I'm proud I stayed honest after success stopped looking impressive.
What answer would cost you to admit?
If this is what 40 feels like, I owe every 40-year-old an apology.
Also a chair, a nap, and a less dramatic definition of success.
Does it get better, or do we get better at pretending?
