Today, @griviera calls @wendolymarte, the economic justice director at @CommChangeAct, to talk about the organization’s event on 5/9, A Day Without Child Care.
She explains what they’re fighting for and how to get involved in this national day of action: https://t.co/WjHkQoMBfK
Democrats in the House passed #BuildBackBetter -- the biggest investment in American families since the Great Society. We are turning the tide from Reaganomics to a Care Economy. 🎉🎉🎉
NEW ✨ Now is our chance to secure a historic win for families with the Senate’s passage of a budget resolution that includes investing in #childcare! 🙌🏾

What’s *actually* dangerous is billionaires trying to control our democracy. Big 💰does NOT get a vote in #OurBronx. 🙅🏾♂️
These attacks are about protecting profits—NOT working people. But they’re proof that our campaigns are winning—and we won’t stop. 👊🏽

#OurBronx has big dreams. The District 14 we deserve is possible because we dare to fight for it & to build it #FromTheGroundUp.
My campaign is about bringing our people’s power to City Council. On June 22, we’ll go there together. We’ll govern together: https://t.co/seO5qawaSX.
1/ Had an incredible rally & canvass with over 40 members of @LIUNA @laborers79, @nycdsa & our #Bronx community. ✊🏽
They came out in the rain 🌧 to invite our neighbors to vote for change #FromTheGroundUp on June 22nd—a testament to the dedication & power behind this campaign.✅
Finally, from our director of economic justice, @wendolymarte: We need a $700 billion investment to support the reality that #childcare is essential, so parents can go to work and keep the economy moving. Yet, the system itself has been historically underfunded. This must change.
That’s why passage of comprehensive child care legislation is vital for our communities. It is time that we as a country equitably value child care and the mostly women and mothers who provide it. It’s time for Congress to pass the Child Care for Working Families Act.” 🙌🏾
From our director of economic justice, @wendolymarte:
“The child care workforce has been chronically underpaid, and the system itself has been historically underfunded, leaving many families to fend for themselves...
Hermanito, we are hurting. I owe it to you & your family to take this rage & use it to fight for the radical transformation we need. You deserved a caring & compassionate world & should have been allowed to live a joyous long life. They stole that from you. ¡#AdamToledo presente!
Organizer Sandra Lobo says: “We have the power to win, that our community should be governed, and owned by us. Whose Bronx? #OurBronx!”
If we don’t want real estate or city hall making decisions for us without us, then we need to step up. #FromTheGroundUp
“Today, it is devastating as many child care providers have shuttered their centers, while mothers have had to make difficult choices to make do. Without question, we need a healthy child care industry to rebuild our workforce and economy.” - @wendolymarte
I'm proud to share LiUNA-NY's endorsement of our campaign.
#OurBronx has been fighting for development that invests in community & worker power from the Kingsbridge Armory to Jerome Ave. Together w/ our sisters & brothers in labor, we'll build a just recovery #FromTheGroundUp.
