Our Programme Officer for Agricultural Technologies and Innovation Dr. Joshua Okonya @joshuaokonya ,at @ASARECA, was one of the 27 eminent Ugandan scientists recently elected as a fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS). This high honour is for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of science in the field of Agricultural Sciences.
Dr. Okonya was formally inducted as a distinguished Fellow of @unasuganda on 31 October 2025 during the 2025 Annual Scientific Conference at the Four Points by Sheraton, Kampala. This Fellowship is the highest professional recognition for a research scientist or scholar in Uganda.
This esteemed recognition not only signifies the valuable impact of ASARECA’s work in improving #FoodSecurity amidst a changing climate but, more importantly, serves as a covenant for the work yet to be done. We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Okonya’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to scientific inquiry that led to this honour.

Collaborations & partnerships: DC4FC-Kenyan Chapter will collaboratively work with Geospatial Research International & KOPPERT in delivering e-extension services, to the farming communities across the country through digitalized mobile apps that will aid in farm status diagnosis.

Thanks to @AfDB_Group and @Taat_Africa which enabled the training of Soybean value chain actors on how to set up and manage market-driven innovation platforms (IPs). As a result, 10 Soybean IPs across 9 counties of #kenya will be established by @kalromkulima in 2024.
In combination with effective microbes, charcoal, molasses, garlic, soap & oil, members of two farmers' groups in Machakos County were yesterday trained on how to use an abundant weed Solanum incanum (Sodom Apple) as a key ingredient in home-made biopesticides. #agroecology#IPM

This week, we officially launch KALRO Mkulima Shops in selected Research Centres in the country. The shops are selling points for KALRO seeds, seedlings & other products. The shops are situated at KALRO Kabete, Kitale, Kibos, Njoro, Embu, Mwea, Kandara, Katumani, Matuga & Alupe.
Today, I officially launched the 4th International Phytosanitary Conference at KEPHIS headquarters, themed; "Enhancing Phytosanitary Systems for Trade Facilitation, Climate-Smart Agriculture, and Sustainable Livelihoods."
