Post 10 : Post-Quantum Security in Optimum: HUNCC and a Rarely Discussed Coding-Based Approach
Most projects only focus on replacing key algorithms (lattice-based, etc).
@get_optimum takes a different approach: HUNCC (Hybrid Universal Network Coding Cryptosystem).
This offers a deeper level of protection.
The core challenge of post-quantum security today:
Quantum computers can “probe” data across multiple points simultaneously. They don’t just break keys they search for weaknesses everywhere.
Conventional solutions mainly strengthen the “door lock” (the cryptographic key), while the “door” itself (the data) remains vulnerable.
Optimum’s HUNCC combines:
Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC)
Post-Quantum encryption applied only to a small portion of the data
The result: Data is split into coded shards → only a small portion requires expensive encryption → even if an attacker succeeds, they only obtain equations with “one unknown,” making reconstruction extremely difficult.
Why HUNCC stands out compared to conventional approaches:
Protects the entire payload, not just the key
Significantly lower computational cost (only a small portion is encrypted)
Compatible with McEliece cryptosystem and other PQ schemes
Preserves RLNC benefits (recoding + resilience)
Imagine a quantum attack successfully capturing several shards. Because of the coding structure, the attacker still cannot easily reconstruct the original data it’s like solving a puzzle where every piece depends on many others. This is mathematics, not speculation.
Why does this matter for blockchain?
As more value moves on-chain (DeFi, RWAs, tokenized assets), blockchain systems become increasingly attractive targets for future quantum attackers.
Optimum isn’t just improving network performance it’s preparing for long-term resilience.
This approach comes from a world-class research team, including Muriel Médard from MIT.
They are not simply following the post-quantum trend. They are leveraging decades of coding theory expertise to build something practical and deployable.
Conclusion : Post-quantum security is not just about replacing algorithms.
It is about protecting the entire data layer efficiently.
HUNCC + RLNC in Optimum is one of the most intelligent and promising approaches currently being developed.

@Cashen_cc unlocks a new capital layer for Canton.
By creating a marketplace for CIP-105 & CIP-116 locks, Super Validators and Featured Apps can access the CC they need, while holders keep custody and earn yield on idle capital.
Lock less. Build more. ⚡️ #CantonNetwork
