@CityHallWchVAN Can you walk me through why this message from an opposition MLA is important for a city that voted by a majority to be represented by the NDP?
The NDP passed their housing policy before the election. Brodie's riding is least affected by the ODP.
After a relationship ended, I had literal nightmares about waking up back in my parents' house because I couldn't afford to stay in my apartment by myself
the idea that thereโs a surplus of people desperate to move back to their home towns and forced to live in a major city not the other way around is so funny and deluded
I rarely dream and don't remember having any other nightmares before, so it was really something
My hometown is fine, and my parents (and their house) are nice. I still visit regularly, but there's just nothing else there for me anymore
@fabulavancouver The location and nearby amenities of living in a tower can give you access to more opportunities for connection outside of the building. Knowing your immediate neighbours is great, but only a portion of the influence on any individual's loneliness
@ButYouAreVast@OwenInVan And 3600 is over the whole metro region, not just the city.
๐ค How does 3600 empty condos compare to how many empty rentals are needed for a healthy vacancy rate?
The City of Vancouver did not just surrender in its legal defense of its own housing approval processes.
It volunteered to pay the Kits Coalition's costs.
City of Vancouver has approved the mixed-use redevelopment of West 4th Avenue Safeway in Kitsilano.
385 rental homes, a new 42,000 sf replacement grocery store, and 18,000 sf of retail/restaurants activating the retail strip. #vancre#vanre#vanpoli

@CanadaNetwork That's a very speculative criteria. Some people just aren't going to keep anything on their patio. Moreso if it's small, on a busy street, etc.
Older buildings in Kits have empty patios but are clearly lived in. Larch & 2nd's patios are probably half empty, but the homes aren't.
@CanadaNetwork As I said, Larch & 2nd looks full and the few for rent signs in the neighbourhhod don't stay up long. I don't think the east and west sides of Vancouver are so different that one wouldn't or couldn't rent out 99% while the other does.
@CanadaNetwork Got something more reliable than "trust me"?
How do you think the CMHC is just missing 95+% of vacant rental properties? Or the city and province are just not collecting the vacancy taxes they could?
Developers are spending millions extra to build more than people will rent?
@CanadaNetwork@LcpVan You mean like, through laws and policy that define unit types, maximum rents, and vacancy control required for below market homes?
https://t.co/x3uxlY475V
@CanadaNetwork 4th & Vine is somewhere that allowing extra height for new below market homes should have been easy. Point Grey Village is getting 114 new below market homes and 4th & Vine will have none.
Its height on 3rd Ave will still be shorter than existing neighbouring buildings.
@CanadaNetwork Not many For Rent signs at all on my morning walk, and Larch & 2nd is looking pretty full after they dropped their asking rents for the remaining homes.
