In this time of precarity, particularly with colleges and universities targeting academia for cutbacks, I felt it was important to get involved in my union. Big congrats to the @wetheworkers1 slate for really crushing it. Proud to be a part of this group!

Our universities are on a path to more precarious labor, cuts, & admin bloat. But there is another option, where worker councils make decisions & workers are treated with respect. Vote for We the Workers and help us halt the austerity at NYU & TNS. https://t.co/JO1Lr4dNa5
When SENS went on strike 9 mo. into bargaining, Zoe Carey, candidate for Pres, traveled to DC to meet Sen. Sanders & share our struggle. We the Workers know real strength comes from engaged members, political pressure, & solidarity from other workers. https://t.co/jgAhXO8w8Q
We the Workers also includes the following candidates who won their seats by acclamation: Lisa Masters, SHENS Unit Chair; Jeff Stark, Recording Secretary; Arya Vaghayenegar, SENS Unit Chair; Lizzie Olesker, 2nd VP; Alex Robbins, Guide; Bob Ellis, Sergeant in Arms.
Bahareh Ebne Alian, candidate for Fin Sec, joined a New School rally last week to demand the university is returned to the workers - students, staff, and faculty - that run the school. https://t.co/aIOSLRzzd4 via @FacebookWatch
Cate Fallon, candidate for NYU Unit Chair, was a key player in the founding of our union. She has served in many roles, including 1st VP and currently as President. Having worked with every unit in our local, Cate is determined to bring strong leadership to the NYU Unit.
Clarisa Diaz, candidate for Trustee, has experience at both NYU and TNS, having earned an MFA from Parsons. She currently serves as an NYU Unit Rep and teaches at Tandon. If elected, Clarisa will bring this experience to fight for all workers, from each of our four units.
Zoe Carey, candidate for President. βIβm running with We the Workers because of their support for new labor movements on campus, and because they are the only slate representing all four units.β
Bahareh Ebne Alian, candidate for Fin Sec. "A union is all about solidarity & collective power, not self-enrichment of its officers. The addition of new units to our local makes us stronger. A fin sec who treats this growth as a threat is in the union for the wrong reasons."
Ross Barkan, candidate for Trustee. "If you elect me as Trustee on the We the Workers Slate, I promise to fight tooth-and-nail to raise membersβ pay and safeguard union jobs against budget cuts."
Ahad Ali, candidate for Trustee. "As Graduate Trustee on TNS Board of Trustees, I fought for transparency at the highest administrative level. If elected, I promise to bring all of my experience and energies to making sure that all our local members have their voices heard!"
Duncan Osborne. "If elected 1st Vice President, I will continue the advocacy for all members that I pursued during organizing & bargaining to admit adjuncts at NYU Tandon, as recording secretary on our Executive Board, and as a member of the most recent NYU bargaining committee."
Annie Larson, candidate for PTF Unit Chair. "I commit to establishing an open channel to hear member concerns, especially during contract negotiations. I will fight tirelessly to improve working conditions, preserve health care benefits & strengthen job security for all members."
With massive layoffs & restructuring on the table at TNS, strong unions standing together against a bloated administration are more important than ever. This NS Free Press review of a recent Teach In helps connect the issues and shows solidarity in action. https://t.co/QLEvB5ygUt
