These developments at The New School are terrible news for the academy. The New School role as a champion of heterodox thinking and scholarly dissent has played and plays a unique role in the ecology of knowledge creation.

I am horrified to read that Sanjay Reddy @sanjaygreddy has been laid off. He is a key figure in the Economics Department and one of the most trenchant critiques of neoclassical economics anywhere. I profoundly disagree with most of what he has to say, but that is the point. To the extent that this action inhibits his future contributions, the discipline is the poorer.
