🚨ANNOUNCEMENTS IN WALES MUST BE ENGLISH FIRST, POLITICIANS SAY🚨

All public safety announcements in Wales should be made in the English language first, politicians have demanded.

The calls follow Friday’s emergency alert, which was sent initially in the Welsh language only.

The English language version arrived around 10 minutes later, which recipients warned would cost “valuable seconds” in an emergency.

Both Reform and Conservative politicians have said that subsequent announcements must be made in the English language first.

In a statement on social media, Reform UK Wales said: “This is dangerous. The overwhelming majority of Wales speaks English.

“English should come first to avoid any panic or confusion,” it added.

Echoing his party’s calls, MS Joe Martin (pictured) said it should “go without saying” the messages should be sent in English first, not Welsh.

He warned it “could be the difference between life and death”.

The Welsh Conservatives were also critical.

Andrew RT Davies said it should be a legal requirement for important announcements to be made firstly in English, not Welsh.

He said: “The law must be changed to ensure emergency alerts and other important announcements are always made in English first.

“Over 80% of people in Wales don’t speak Welsh. Common sense must prevail.”
