@AuntBsRamblings@reallybadposter I'd happily pay 2-3k for a days labor, but it seems that's not enough for most companies.
I just can't justify 10k in labor for someone with less attention to detail than myself so 2k in tools + DIY it is.
@reallybadposter The unit I'm looking at is about 6k. I'm budgeting 2k for tools and leaving some room for adjusting some ductwork and anything unexpected. That's how I got to 10k as my conservative DIY estimate for a full communicating system. If I'm paying that much I don't want single stage.
@RnDTaxGuy@uncledoomer I'd say for the first 2-3 years after buying a neglected house from boomers this is true. Long term though it should be a lot less.
I've never had the luxury of buying a home that was properly taken care of. I always strive to leave my properties better off for the next owner.
@chasepeeler@DubDublin@Devon_Eriksen_ Yes, although covering some preventative stuff does save the insurance company money too by catching things earlier.
@Devon_Eriksen_ Correct. My only nitpick is that modern health insurance premiums can (and often do) cost FAR MORE per year than most families pay in taxes.
@WBAIII@EriktheFren@bumbadum14 I should clarify that a 16A 240V charger (on a 20A circuit) is what I meant in my original post. It is a huge upgrade from 120V charging and pretty cheap to install.
@EriktheFren@bumbadum14 The sweet spot is being able to fill up overnight. Faster is nice, but requires more copper, plus you're more likely run into capacity issues.
Most 200A homes with natural gas services can easily handle a 32A charger. It's the old farmhouses and 100A panels that have issues.
@bumbadum14 I'd have a hard time justifying a pure gas vehicle for a daily driver at this point. At the very least a plug in hybrid drivetrain like the Chevy Volt or Toyota Rav4 prime would be amazing in a small truck form.
@EriktheFren@bumbadum14 Depends on how fast you wanna charge. Pretty much every panel has room for a cheap 20A circuit that will get you about 10-15 miles per hour of range.
@Sargon_of_Akkad It is a more elegant solution, but all the extra infrastructure to mount them up high over cars adds a lot more cost and red tape so most companies don't want to do it.
@kenthecowboy_@dheisman I'm similar. I think it's trying to "optimize" everything that gets in my way. Can't really turn off my engineer brain though, so I also have "high effort" coping mechanisms.
@Pat_Stedman This is basically my biggest flaw. It really gets under my skin too when people notice.
I tend to be intensely task focused and don't perceive the passing of time properly.
Even still, I've managed to make huge improvements on this by forcing myself to be more disciplined.
