In the past week, Lebanon has experienced one of the sharpest escalations since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East, and families are paying the price.
Food prices are rising, incomes are being disrupted and pressure on displaced and host families is increasing, as nearly one million people across the country have been forced from their homes.
The situation is evolving into a deepening food security crisis — even before this escalation, 874,000 people were already facing extreme hunger, and that number is expected to rise.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has already delivered the equivalent of more than 2 million meals, including daily food support to nearly 80,000 displaced people in shelters.
WFP teams are still working to deliver food and cash assistance wherever it is safe, but without immediate and sustained funding, WFP’s ability to maintain lifesaving food assistance at scale could be at risk.
