@JLLiedl Fr Ted spoke to us in Sorin Chapel in the fall of 1972. When asked about spiritual life, he said Notre Dame is as Catholic as you want it to be. I see no substantial change. The “Notre Dame lost its soul” is a tiresome parlor game. But you are correct, it is an old one.
