Never everrrrrr be ashamed of having a big and/or empathetic heart. Love is an infinite source and so is kindness. What people choose to do with the energy you naturally put out shouldn’t be your concern. Be that person anyways
you have to deal with your shame before you can even think of imposing yourself on someone for the rest of their lives. shame makes you dishonest and untrustworthy
If we date, don’t stop being you. Keep having fun, keep seeing your friends, keep chasing your goals, and keep enjoying your life. A relationship should add to your life, not take away from it. Just make sure you save time for us too.
Reading through the different takes on this quote, I understand why many people feel the way they do. The ongoing xenophobia is unjust, and no one is wrong for feeling hurt or angry about it.
But there's a thin line between calling for solidarity and fueling more division.
Saying "no SA lineups" doesn't really solve the problem. It places an entire group of people into one box. It's no different from when people point fingers at Nigerians and say, "Y'all are fraudsters." We know how unfair that feels.
I remember a trip to Ghana where someone told me he hated Nigerians because of an experience he'd had. He said we're all the same. I listened to his story because I knew that kind of resentment usually comes from somewhere. I felt bad about what he'd gone through, but I was also hurt to be judged and classified by the actions of people I'd never met.
That's the danger of generalization. The moment we start treating entire groups as one thing, we become guilty of the very behavior we're speaking against.
The hate we give has a way of finding its way back to us.
We can condemn xenophobia without becoming xenophobic ourselves.
The sooner you accept that you’re never gonna stop experiencing friendship breakups the better you learn to let go. Life is hard and humans are complicated and that’s ok. You can put in self work, try your best to be a good friend and all but unfortunately it’s inevitable.
