Australian Parliament has formally recognised the persecution of Hazaras, alongside the brutal oppression of women and girls in Afghanistan.
This recognition is a landmark moment. It carries real legal and political weight. A decisive step towards justice & global accountability.

[Sajjad Askary @AskarySajjad]

An important & timely piece by @AzeemIbrahim. The ongoing persecution and targeted violence against Hazaras is not just a tragedy—it is a genocide. Any talk of normalising relations with the Taliban must confront this brutal reality.

Thank you @stephhodginsmay Federal Senator for Victoria in the Australian Parliament, for speaking out against the persecution of Hazaras in Afghanistan and calling for the Hazara genocide to be recognised. Your support helps keep our fight for justice alive. #StopHazaraGenocide‌

Today marks four years since the Taliban takeover and the continued genocide of the Hazaras in Afghanistan.

On the 4th anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover, Greens Senator @DavidShoebridge has released a strong statement recognising the ongoing genocidal violence, systemic

4 years since the Taliban seized Afghanistan—the toll is devastating. Women & girls erased from schools, work & public life. Hazaras & other marginalised groups face relentless persecution. A war to erase identity, silence resistance & crush hope for an entire people.

Ten years ago today, a peaceful protest by the Enlightenment Movement was shattered by twin suicide bombings in Kabul. The attacks stole over 85 Hazara lives—but not the spirit of a people demanding justice, dignity & equality. A decade on, we remember. We resist. #HazaraGenocide

The cruelty of the Taliban, so often inflicted on #Afghan detainees, and women and girls, has also extended to the British Reynolds couple, aged 80 & 75, detained for 5+ months in poor health and reportedly without charges. I urge immediate and adequate medical care and release.

Delighted to share that my brother Najib has been admitted as an Australian lawyer—becoming the 4th in our family. From fleeing Hazara genocide to standing in court, I had the honour of moving his admission. Refugees don’t just survive—we lead, contribute & shape a better future.

[Sitarah Moh @sitarah_m]

On #WorldRefugeeDay2025, I stand as a Hazara, former refugee and lawyer. I honour the strength of refugees—those displaced, seeking safety, dignity and freedom. Refugees are survivors, leaders & builders. Freedom isn’t a privilege—it is a right. We won’t stop until it’s for all.

Such an inspiring conversation with @AusHazaraLegal and Hazara diaspora community. All fled persecution in Afghanistan and sought protection in Australia - now they are lawyers giving back to their communities and speaking up for human rights, refugees and persecuted Afghans.

Reports confirm the brutal killing of a #Hazara teenager, Mahdi, by Taliban forces. He was tortured before being executed with a shot to the head. Twelve of his family members were also arrested. His body was returned to the family with a warning to bury him quietly.

This atrocity highlights the ongoing systemic targeting of #Hazaras by the Taliban.

[Sitarah Moh @sitarah_m]

Mahdi was just 16 years old, a school student.

He was tortured then subsequently executed by the Taliban for being a Hazara.

It’s about shaping the future of our communities, being heard, and making sure our needs and contributions are part of the bigger picture. Let’s follow Burton’s lead and make engagement a priority wherever we are.

A joyful evening filled with music, dance and heartfelt celebrations of Nowruz and Eid with the Australian Hazara community of Geelong, Victoria, joined by our local members of parliament, wearing traditional Hazaragi dress and scarves.

Today, 15 lawyers from the @AusHazaraLegal had a productive discussion with the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, @RichardMarlesMP.

We appreciate his time and commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue.
