Little known fact:
Although much has been written about America's PAST treatment of Black veterans, few people are aware that tens of thousands of Black people who served in the US Armed Forces are technically and legally excluded from Veterans Day.
A thread (and a story)
My basic advice:
Slow down, do a few quick checks.
Check source/profile/bio.
Notice whether fear is being encouraged rather than action, care, or resource sharing.
Notice when you have strong reactions: do you only agree with half of it?
You don't have to repost everything.
i don’t think outsiders understand the gravity of this facility’s closure. there’s no other immediate / emergency inpatient service of this capacity in this area.. waitlists to see psychiatrists or psych np’s are weeks or months out. Jesus.
Elie Mystal: "Tennessee has now given the entire country an object lesson in critical race theory better than any AP history course ever could have. Everybody sees it now. Everybody knows it now. Everybody gets exactly what is going on." https://t.co/RdYLvfum24
Thank you @brotherjones_@Justinjpearson and @VoteGloriaJ for giving us the time for this important + powerful conversation. Young people are leading right now.
We spoke for more than 40 mins (I’m working a @MSNBConPeacock special so you can see it all!)
Rep. @Justinjpearson called out the "intentional system, [and] systemic and systematic effort" by TN Republicans to expel elected officials who listened to their constituents.
"We use our voices at all times to demand justice," he said.

In Opinion
"Democracy does not exist in a state where officials can be sent home for nothing more than voicing the opinions of voters who are pounding on the statehouse door, demanding to be heard," Margaret Renkl writes about the Tennessee legislature. https://t.co/MaBorKEnny
“Democratic lawmakers slammed the GOP statehouse leadership as ‘out of step…with each other and the vast majority of Mississippians—including their own voters.’”
Ballot initiative, Medicaid expansion, fully funding education—this is not a party concerned with what you want.

Another win for Jackson. Bill 2889 which proposed the State of Mississippi taking over Jackson water system has died. The system is currently under federal oversight and it is being improved thanks to $800 million from the federal government. This process will take up to 5 years.
Today, Mississippi supposedly spends $4m in TANF on welfare checks and ~$35m on subgrants. That accounts for <half of its $86.5m annual TANF grant. Some amount goes to CPS. Where does the rest go? No one is saying, but the state’s checkbook contains purchases like these:
Speaker Gunn says banning gender surgery on minors in Mississippi is the "most transformative" thing the House as done so far this #MSleg session, describing the bill as "critically important."
Gender surgery on minors is not known to have ever happened in Mississippi.
