Sun safety for babies:
☀️ Keep children under 6mth out of direct, strong sunlight
️☀️ Keep everyone out of the sun as much as possible (especially 11am-3pm)
☀️ Use at least factor 30 sunscreen
☀️ Reapply sunscreen every 2hr
☀️ Use a sun hat with a wide brim/long flap at the back
Car seats are for travel only, to protect your baby during the journey. The car seat should not be used indoors as a place for your baby to sit and eat, sit and play, or for them to sleep in.
If your holiday accommodation is providing a cot for your baby, check it has:
✔️ Firm, flat, waterproof mattress
✔️ No damage
✔️ Rigid, firm cot base
✔️ Well-fitting mattress (no gaps)
If cot bumpers are provided, remove these as they can cause accidents.
We're thrilled to announce that our amazing Bereavement Midwife, Sam Behagg, has been shortlisted for Midwife of the Year at the @NursingTimes Awards! 🌟

Sleep positioners (including rolled up towels/blankets) increase the risk of accidents and do not comply with safer sleep advice. Whilst it might be tempting to use one to stop your baby rolling, the risk of an accident is much greater. A CLEAR cot is a SAFER cot.

Tummy time is important to help babies develop the strength and ability to roll and, eventually, crawl! However, tummy time must be supervised and it’s important to stop if your little one gets tired so they don’t fall asleep in that position.
Our safer sleep overview page is the fastest way to get a summary of our most up-to-date advice: https://t.co/T5NZEw8YXn Bedding, sleep position, room temperature – they all impact the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. So have a quick read through this important page.
🌟 Exciting News! 🌟
This week, I led the launch of the new Women’s Network at @WestHertsNHS with great support from colleagues. Over 70 members have already joined! Huge thanks to the WN committee and staff network teams. Proud of what we’re building!💪

Loose bedding can block a baby’s airway or cause overheating if the baby wriggles down under it. So firmly tuck the blanket in on both sides of the cot, no higher than the shoulders. Baby's feet should touch the end of the cot to help prevent them wriggling down under the blanket
Congrats to Sam Behagg, our Lead Bereavement Midwife, who has been nominated for the 2024 @NursingTimes Midwife of the Year Award! 💙
