I worked hard — very hard — on the Elian Gonzalez case back in 2000 — to try to get him an asylum hearing, which he was entitled to as a matter of due process, especially in light of special laws Congress passed regarding escapees from the Cuban communist regime under Castro.

Janet Reno denied him (acting through his Miami relatives) the right to get an asylum hearing, even though his mother was clearly trying to escape communism, a classic asylum-worthy situation.

Note that many of the same people screaming about Abrego Garcia’s due process rights were clamoring for Elian to be sent back to Cuba without an asylum hearing or they remained completely silent.

Just think about that comparison for a few minutes. Fidel Castro was a murderous dictator. @nayibbukele, by contrast, has restored law and order to El Salvador and worked a renaissance of capitalism there. And instead of acting as a thorn in the side of America for decades like Castro did, Bukkele is partnering with President Trump to destroy the drug cartels poisoning the American people.
