Who keeps a curious watch over CTBT's monitoring stations? Francesca, the resident owl 🦉! Earlier this year, our maintenance crew carried out an upkeep visit of the infrasound station IS20 on Santa Cruz Island, Ecuador, in the magnificent Galápagos Islands. The #CTBTO engineers also trained a new station operator, under the watchful eye of Francesca. Thanks to their efforts, the station is now fully mission capable again!
#Japan's new Permanent Representative, Amb. Atsushi Kaifu presented his credentials to @_RobFloyd this Friday. The Executive Secretary thanked 🇯🇵 for its tremendous & wide-ranging support of #CTBT, especially its strong political commitment and leadership in championing entry into force.
Speaking at an introductory seminar on the #CTBTO for diplomats in Vienna, @_RobFloyd welcomed participants, saying: “Amidst some dark clouds of concern, the #CTBT is a bright spot, and its entry into force more important now than ever.” The day-long event, translated into all UN languages, aims to enhance diplomats' understanding & expand their knowledge about the Treaty, its verification regime & our mission to end #nuclear testing.
Inspired to feel so much dedication, energy and talent from #CTBTO colleagues at my first Town Hall meeting with staff. Great support, ideas and feedback to shape our path ahead. With people like this, we can #FinishWhatWeStarted. @ctbto_alerts
Lava is cascaded into the summit water lake, boiling off the water and forming a new lava lake. The northern fissure, pictured, was producing the tallest lava fountain at roughly 50 m (165 ft), and all lava was contained within Halemaʻumaʻu crater in Kīlauea caldera.
A legally binding ban on nuclear testing #CTBT is vital to achieve a more peaceful and safer future.
