This is a plausibility check from a whiskey data nerd who likes calculators more than press quotes. I’m not rooting for anyone to fail. I’m rooting for clean math, clear disclosures, and a healthier whiskey industry.
Uncle Nearest claims a 68% brand return. In a three-tier world, that should set off sirens. Distributors and retailers are mandated middlemen; the claim says the brand keeps 68 cents of every retail dollar. Industry average is 50–55%.
If you are skeptical, fair. This is a team that raised real money to challenge an entrenched industry, and they built a notable brand. They have access to smart operators.
@BourbEnthusiasm Black Sicilian
2 oz rye whiskey (or bourbon)
1 oz Amaro Averna or Amaro Montenegro
1 oz sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica or similar)
2-3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
Orange peel for garnish

Think of our wallets.
Well, done. This will be nightmare juice until it is in our collection.

@RBird101 Always appreciate your insight. I'd potentially adjust the gage of $10/year as the first sniff test. A brand wants to go significantly higher? Then give me reason for the bump. Lower batch size, unique process, craft - remove the subjective from the convo
@fintheirishman@BAXUSco The three-tier system is a protection racket. It rewards scale, punishes independence, and locks out innovation. The logic is broken: if this system worked, we wouldn’t need backdoor shipping, gray markets, or endless lawsuits.
