Please respond to #Brighton Council's consultation on City Plan 2 to help #SaveWhitehawkHill Nature Reserve (& other 'urban fringe' sites) from built development. Link to our guidance notes here - https://t.co/tWnMn61HjK Nature needs a home too!
We don't want to "trespass".
We want to pass through the land freely, but if doing so makes us "trespassers" - let us #trespass far and wide!

Red fox (Vulpes vulpes) photographed by Stephen Savage. "I have been tracking fox visits to my urban garden near #Brighton. Saw this fox strolling across the lawn in our back garden before disappearing, it returned an hour later" #Hove#Wildlife#Nature#Biodiversity
Rewilding the landscape can and should go hand in hand with extending Right to Roam.
Don't believe me? Check out this great video by ecologist Dave Bangs and the Brighton Downs Alliance. They want to restore nature and roaming rights to the South Downs:

@Melindola@MarkAvery The fight continues. The matter is now with planning Inspectorate, reviewing responses to #Brighton & Hove’s City Plan. We say Nature Reserves should be reserved for nature!
@MarkAvery Brighton's downlands are under continuous threat from the Council wanting to build over it, such as Whitehawk Hill Nature Reserve https://t.co/38l5A8jjmM
CONSULTATION ENDS MIDNIGHT THIS FRIDAY 30TH
If you haven’t filled it in please do so to help SAVE WHITEHAWK HILL.
This is our last chance! Please take part & object.

There were plans for a butterfly bank some years back. Yet butterflies abound all round the nature reserve. Isolated projects like this totally fail to understand whole landscapes & interconnected species.
@whitehawkhill@TraceyMHill Probably means a 'Butterfly Bank' ... where chalk is dumped and CG species seed applied. No connectivity. Zero genuine benefit for #Biodiversity. 'Educational Value' alone.

.@TraceyMHill, this is not about ‘feeling strongly’. Show me an urban fringe site as richly valuable as #WhitehawkHill. We have surveys from National level specialists to prove this.
But then you think the councils mitigation’s will “improve #biodiversity”, which is nonsense.
@whitehawkhill@robert_nemeth As city councillors, we have to make decisions for the whole city. People right across Brighton and Hove feel just as strongly about their local spaces as you do. And actually, there are just as many objections to applications on brownfield sites!

This is NOT true! In the last two years we have had very little support from the Greens on protecting the urban fringe, on supporting our campaign to #SaveWhitehawkHill, despite it being a statutory nature reserve.
We are all dedicated to protecting the urban fringe. But sadly, increasingly rapacious Tory Government is now proposing to raise the housing targets that mean we can't protect them all - by 300%.

No, this is incorrect @TraceyMHill. We were lead to believe this for a long time but now find out that there WAS the option to remove sites. Particularly ours, which is a statutory Nature Reserve.
Stop playing a politics blame game with our Downland. Yes, OURS. @robert_nemeth
Many have probably heard that various matters today relating to the destruction of #Brighton & #Hove’s urban fringe are due to be discussed at Full Council today. @BHConservatives are again calling on Labour/Greens to think again and save these precious spaces.
