In today’s dating world, many are like Lord Farquaad, seeking validation and perfection while others are like Fiona, waiting for a fairytale ending; and some are like Shrek, authentic but unsure of their worth. The storyline of Shrek can teach us that true love comes from self-love and a genuine connection. We should do better with breaking free from societal expectations. Embracing our true selves and being open to unexpected connections can lead to the possibility of finding love that is as real and enduring, just like Shrek and Fiona.

Modern-Day Love: Lessons from Shrek

Many of us find ourselves navigating the tricky field of requirements, self-image, and societal narratives in the ever-changing world of modern romance. The nostalgic 2001 movie "Shrek" offers an excellent analogy to understand these complex dynamics. I watched the Mallorybros Podcast episode 203 and was presented with this analogy. I have broken down 4 examples of how modern dating is reflected in the characters of Shrek, Fiona, Lord Farquaad, Donkey and Dragon.

Disclaimer: I am not a love doctor. I have had my fair share of romantic wins and losses, and I am still learning. These are just my observations.

Trope #4: Donkey and the Dragon

Donkey’s game and swag allowed him to win over Dragon. Their relationship should remind us that confidence and being your most authentic self can enable us to achieve our most difficult challenges in love. People might wonder, "How did Donkey get the Dragon?" but the answer is that Donkey was simply just fearless and willing to approach the Dragon with an open heart and challenge preconceived notions about who is in his “league” or who is his “type”.

R.I.P. MALCOM X

11:50 PM - I’m listening to GO! by Common, and he mentioned Malcolm X, I instantly thought “RIP MALCOLM X ''. He is one of the most influential people of all time. Like Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Huey P. Newton, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, 2Pac are legends that died too soon. Malcolm X is cemented on my Mount Rushmore of political idols. A generational trailblazer that we may never see the likes of. With all that has happened since his assassination in 1965, I can't help but wonder how he would perceive our society today.

Malcolm X and his ideology needs to be studied and taught to black & brown people. His beliefs, which were often controversial, came from a strong desire for equality and Justice. He challenged the status quo and advocated for self-empowerment and self-defense against systemic oppression. Malcolm changed his name to Malcolm X to demonstrate his intellectual and spiritual development and his devotion to Islam. His story represents a powerful example of the importance of education, self-awareness and an unwavering commitment to one's principles.

Malcolm X's philosophy is a living, breathing foundation that needs to be studied and implemented to future generations; it is more than just a piece of history. Understanding his ideas can help black people gain empowerment and a better understanding of the institutional forces that influence society. His focus on independence, pride, and determination remains relevant today as it was during the Civil Rights Movement.

Based on modern issues—systemic racism, economic inequality, and social injustice--Malcolm X's ideas provide a blueprint for dealing with these problems. He encouraged people to look past the surface-level narratives to recognize the truth about privilege and power. His legacy should serve as a call to action for us to continue the fight towards a society that is just and ethical.

Considering his accomplishments, advocacy and education are important in order to preserve his legacy. Is it possible for us to see someone similar?

Importance of personal brand

Allow me to introduce you to a phrase that holds monumental weight in all aspects of life.
PTB… Protect The Brand. Three words that encompasses the broad aspect of the importance of maintaining and upholding a specified image. Image is everything. Whether it's personal or in a general sense, image plays a major role in how we live our lives and how society operates. Society has a weird way of manipulating and exploiting the public's perception on personal image. I believe it’s important for everyone to discover (if not already) their own unique personal image that reflects their internal character and their mindset.

The words image and brand are synonymous. Your personal image is your personal brand. When you think of your favorite brand(s) and how they display their image, you can thoroughly see a representation that reflects their values, mission, and identity. Just like a brand, your personal image is shaped by the way you present yourself, the values you uphold, and the impressions you leave on others. It's important to develop your personal image with consistent and careful attention in order to leave a positive and lasting perception in the minds of those around you.

Have you ever heard the phrase “that’s on brand” when describing someone or something? It’s a phrase that is used to associate an action or characteristic to one’s personality traits. I used to think of the phrase as simple humor just to mock, but now I see it as a statement that reflects what you are displaying in your everyday life. I doubt anyone wants to associate a bad trait with that being on brand for them. Cleaning yourself up internally allows for you to be your most authentic and productive self.

Your personal image can take you where you aspire to be in life. We live in a time where being an “entrepreneur” rolls right off the tongue. Millions of people have a brand and product that they are promoting each and every day, but what separates each individual business is its identity and its authenticity. A lot of doors can be opened for you.

Now with that being said, everyone’s personal image is different and unique to them. I suggest steering away from conformity or mirroring some else’s image. It can be a mental strain and in the long run you will just be dissatisfied with time wasted. Discover exactly what is niche to you, and brand it to fit your image.

Personal image is important in all aspects of life. It is the way people show themselves through their behavior, appearance, and conversation. First impressions, self-confidence, professional success, relationships, communication, cultural perception, and self- identity are all impacted by one's image.

Find who you are and be who you are.

Nostalgia

In today's fast-paced world, where the future often seems to unexpectedly come barreling towards us at an overwhelming rate, there is a unique comfort in pausing to reflect on the past.

Nostalgia, “a yearning for our past selves, not just for a time and place”. This feeling is a powerful and universal human experience that we all encounter. It allows us to reminisce back to simpler times that stimulate one’s dearest memories, and connect us with our roots. But beyond its warm and refreshing feelings, I wonder exactly what exactly is the science behind nostalgia? How does our brain process these moments, and why do we yearn for the past?

I’ve been reading up on how our mind reacts to when we have a feeling of nostalgia. “Retrieval cues”, essentially triggers those feelings which allow us to remember things either consciously or subconsciously. I’m learning that nostalgia also impacts us on how we view/viewed ourselves. When you reminisce about a certain moment, you don’t just think about the time and place, but also the version of you at that time. It calls on a number of emotions.

Personally, when I think of “outside” or hear the phrase “go outside”, I instantly think about elementary school recess. Recess, the only time where a kid has ultimate freedom. Socializing with friends and playing around, peak adolescence. Going outside in any capacity whether it was at school, the Boys and Girls Club, or summer camp, it always felt like a breath of fresh air. The joy and adrenaline associated with the feeling of going outside brings back many memories of youthfulness.

All those emotions translate into my hobby of going outside and just enjoying nature. Despite no longer coming back inside looking to quench my thirst with a long sip from the water fountain, my well being is refreshed knowing that my inner child is satisfied.

With all that being said, nostalgia is connected to all emotions, not just when we are in good spirits but to also to comfort us when we experience negative emotions. Nostalgia displays a direct connection to the emotions we seek to feel in the present. In moments of sadness, loneliness, fear; we tend to lean on nostalgic times to comfort and regulate those emotions.

Depending on your perception of the past, nostalgia can either be positive or negative. For those who have had a troubled past, nostalgia can be a complex experience to navigate. The memories that surface might be tied to unresolved emotions, making it difficult to embrace the comforting aspects of reminiscing. I realize that nostalgia doesn't always have to be moments of bliss; it can also be a way to acknowledge personal growth and resilience.

I hope everyone finds peace in knowing that even the most challenging memories have played a role in who you are today, and that reflecting on the past can be a step towards healing and self-love.

Find your “nostalgia” and utilize it to your benefit.

You need to be thinking big!!

I could be wrong but…

Working a fixed job until I’m 50, just isn’t in the plans. I don’t know about you, but me personally, I can’t be confined to a cubicle and 2 monitors for my career. I believe that growing up in the 21st century where entrepreneurial aspirations and access to wealth are so achievable that there is no reason why you can’t pursue what you have a passion for.

“Dream big”—isn't that what we're told as kids? In college, there's no reason not to have a hobby or passion outside of your major or career interests. Special shout out to those who choose majors based on their interests and hobbies—you essentially have a head start on your dreams!

No matter what school you attend, there are many clubs and organizations that cater to your specific interests, providing resources and opportunities to pursue your passions. Even if you don’t attend college, there are still numerous outlets for you to pursue what you’re interested in.

Dreaming big allows you to see possibilities for yourself that extend beyond the traditional norms that are set. We are taught to go to school, get a job, and retire. Does that not sound bland? Thinking outside of the box begins when you start to see more for yourself than what’s around you. You shouldn’t feel limited in any capacity of your life.

With that being said, I’m not naive to the fact that there are external factors that weigh on how we live our day to day lives. There are some conditions that we face that may hinder our ability to dream big. That’s life, that’s just how the cards are dealt. However, once you hit an age where you are able to make decisions for yourself, free will becomes a tool, and you should utilize it.

I am actively working on my dreams and aspirations and will pursue my passions and hobbies in due time. I have a big imagination and I believe everyone should use theirs to achieve their dreams. In this age of technology where just about anyone can get rich for doing practically anything, there should be no reason why you can’t do the same. Do what makes you happy and brings you peace. Simple. Like that one Nas song, “The World is Yours”! Literally.

To those who don’t have a passion or hobby, find something that you geek about and expand on it.

On the other hand, I commend those who live a modest life, those who went to school, got their degree, worked X amount of years at their job, retired, and now living the sweet life. In their eyes they lived their life correctly and I respect that. So I could be wrong…

Project 25 or Project Retrograde

I could be wrong but…

I think a society were all progressive policies that protect many minorities are at risk, is ludicrous. I will admit, I wasn’t hip to exactly what “Project 25”was until about @9pm last night, but as I’m typing this post out now, I have a through understanding of what it is and the potentially monumental impact it can have on the nation. I just don’t understand why essential diversity and inclusion policies and women’s health policies and educational policies have to be at danger. These policies are beneficial to many people. Appears to be an evident lack of human expression. A failure to do what’s right on behalf of the good samaritans of this nation.

Like the last post, we live in a reality where a 77 year old billionaire can play in his own matrix. The way the document reads, if said candidate (current convicted felon) wins the election, then the rollout for this project is immediate. Someone said it’s a feasible Totalitarian government. If you ask me, I remember my government class, and I know for certain that this isn’t good. The “Presidential Transition Project”…targets just about every facet of American life.

You also have to consider this as well, Ai is only getting smarter. It is beneficial to our day-to-day lives but its capabilities are beginning to do some crazy things like facial recognition, picture manipulation, high speed automation, etc.
A simple formula: Ai + project 25 + matrix man = S.O.S.

I’m praying everyone gets educated on the candidates running at the local, state, and federal levels. It’s important to know who and what you’re voting for. My generation is up next up and it is critical that we vote wisely. It’s a disservice to ourselves if we aren’t aware of what’s at stake. Don’t be someone who did not vote but complains once things get changed, you have the power to vote so exercise it. Every vote matters. A voteless people is truly a hopeless people.

With all this being said, Project Retrograde looks like a realistic reality. I need my young folks to use their brains! Continue to read and learn. The window for change continues to shrink with manifestos like Project 25. The project doesn’t outright say that it is endorsing Donald but the curation of this project is a collaborative effort between organizations founded under his administration. For instance: America First Legal, Conservative Partnership Institute, and the Center for Renewing America. Is it not obvious what’s being done? I could be wrong…

My spiel on Trump going 0-34

I could be wrong but…

Having a former president as a current convicted felon is a huge mindf*ck. Let me know if I’m wrong…but a president’s job is to protect and serve on behalf of the citizens of this country, I’m sure hush money scandals aren’t on the job description. Donald had 74 million people vote for him and at the end of 4 years he produced a rap sheet of felony charges stemming from a scandal that involves adult film actresses. Woah. Unfortunately, there is a possibility of him getting re-elected. Convicted felons can’t even vote, but a convicted felon can remain on the ballot. Shaking my head, in melanated disgust.

I think it’s funny because it’s like he is playing in his own matrix. How does a president go from 2-0 on impeachments, to an 0-34 felon who is running for president again in 2024?? Why is there no strike system for people of power that run the nation? Donald is on strike number 3 and is still campaigning. I hope everyone is educated on the candidates in this upcoming election. I definitely need to do more research before voting. I DAMN sure will not be voting for Donald.

Then again, this is what I should have expected from a 77 year old billionaire who is a puppet master controlling his own game. White privileged on display clear as day. Economic achievements aside, I know Obama would’ve been castrated if he did what Donald did. I hope we aren’t living in a time where old wealthy men are just checking “be president” off their elementary school bucket list.

Only God knows what’s in store for us if Donald gets elected for another 4. That would be a prime example of political juxtaposition: a convicted felon as a president. I’m already regretting living in that reality. It can’t all be bad, right? I hate to add comedic satire, but at face value, what I took from Donald’s conviction is that you can go 0-34 in life, but don’t let that stop you from pursuing your dreams lol, but I could be wrong…

Social media and its grip on my generation and the one behind it..

I could be wrong but…

I’ve noticed the negative impact that social media has played in our society. Each year social media continues to evolve and at the same rate it is becoming harder for people to put down their devices.

From my perspective, my generation (Gen Z ‘95-‘10 IMO) had the golden years of technology. Very few if any Ads, quality humor, less restrictions, etc. I grew up on X-Box 360, Vine, hand- held games, Blockbuster for movies, and actual toys that fueled a childs imagination. Authentic technological experiences (if that is even a phrase), nothing more nothing less. Of course there were cons but having technology wasn’t as bad as it now. Being an ipad kid for me was just a tablet with youtube playing, simple. I didn’t get my first phone till I was in 5th grade (which I couldn’t take to school or use until I was done school work), my use of technology didn’t begin to grow until I got to high school, once I got there the age of technology became to skyrocket and now I feel that we are at the beginning of a lost society.

Nowadays, just about everyone has a cellular device (literally, kids). And you can’t convince me that parental guidance/controls are completely limiting what they can and can’t see, kids are smart and they know how to work around these parental controls. I know because my generation is the pioneer for such thing. The phrase “iPad kid” is so vague now, anyone with a phone can be labeled that. Kids (or anyone 17 and younger lol) have been increasingly interested in activities that people my age (20) and up find crazy for someone that age to be doing. Ex: drugs, lust, violence, etc. All of which is influenced by technology and what’s available on social media for there minds to consume. As of lately I continue to hear my peers say “these new kids something” or “kids are doomed” and the only thing to blame is technology.

Unfortunately, it’s only going to get worse. We have social media platforms that push negative media out and it affects not only adults but the youth. Kids are now having “TikTok themed parties” where they just huddle up and do a TikTok dances or an influencer pulls up and does it with them. A lot of things nowadays are for “likes and attention” it doesn’t feel like we are in an authentic society with real genuine relationships.

I wish there was a way to improve the nature of technology but with advances in AI technology it’s only going to get worse, you can literally do anything with AI. Some people think it’s cool, others think it’s scary. I think it’s both, on one end it can be very beneficial to society and our way of life and on the other end, it could be the beginning of the end. If people can make videos with someone’s face and animated to make it do movements then you know the future is fried lol.

Me personally, all I can do is continue to pray and stay out the way. Let’s teach the youth to go touch grass and explore their own personal interest on their own. Technology is bad but I could be wrong…
