Hell is more an event than a place. Sodom was said to have been burned w/ "eternal" fire (Jude1:7) but we know where Sodom is today. Is it still burning? Was it burned? Absolutely .. verified by archeology.
The idea of eternal or unquenchable fire is that it accomplishes it's purpose, the complete destruction of the wicked 'while nothing can stop it' UNTIL it finishes it's work.

Malachi paints the picture quite well:

"And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts." Mal4:3

If you take Lk16:19-31 literally then you *must* take the passage about him "resting in Abraham's bosom" literally.
Are all the dead 'souls' literally "resting in Abraham's bosom"?
The idea is silly taken literally plus the fact that if they be resting in ANYONE's "bosom" wouldn't it be Jesus'?
Do a word study on 'soul' ... the vast predominant usage applies to living persons.
In fact 'souls' and 'people' can be accurately used interchangeably throughout scripture.

I can tell you though ... being 56 by then and having steeped myself in new age philosophies of all kinds for decades, led the musician's life, studied w/ African shamanic tribal drummers .. the whole trainwreck .. fully Satanic w/o even knowing it. Thought I was a Truth seeker (and ironically I truly was - just took the long way around to THE Truth) and 'light worker' .. "etc". Satan REALLY did not want to let me go .. came at me heavy .. was a real battle.

You may already know but If you ever want to get into the deep weeds of, and fully grounded in, Daniel and Revelation, Smiths book on them is as thorough and scholarly as it gets.

I was brought to the feet of Jesus by my last, now deceased, wife. She'd been a lifelong student of scripture, attended church after church after church, listened to preacher after preacher looking for one teaching fully what she was seeing in it's pages, especially Daniel/Rev. "I don't see what they're saying ... am I just stupid?" she'd say. She found the Sabbath by herself when we had first started dating and started looking for a Sabbath keeping church. ALL the churches she'd gone to over the years (she was 45), and was aware of, she'd NEVER even *heard* of the SDA. That's when those digital boxes came out for broadcast tvs. When we hooked it up what pops up but 3ABN. That channel didn't budge for 3 solid days and she was GLUED to it finally literally jumping up and YELLING and pointing at the screen .. "It's THEM .. IT'S {{{THEM}}} ... It's THE REMNANT!!
I being a total newbie wondered if she'd not lost her marbles! ... ;))
Anyway in short order we began attending an SDA church.
In similar fashion she got SO EXCITED when she first heard the "righteousness by faith" message being fleshed out by a little old lady, again on 3ABN.
It was huge to her. Took me a long time to really 'get' the significance of much of these finer points of faith. But what a huge and important message that really is.
