Good thread.

[Robyn Barnard @robynyakira]

@ackocher always shares the most helpful analysis. part of what shocks me the most abt this move by @SecMayorkas is we are talking abt a popn that is largely classic refugee (see below 75% asylum grant rate). deeply disappointed abt this clear derogation of refugee protection

[Jesús de la Torre @JesussdelaTorre]

Venezuelans constitute around the 8% of people apprehended at the border and around 8% of the total asylum cases pending. They have been granted asylum at high rates, as the situation worsens in Venezuela and other hosting countries. @ackocher elaborates further on the data here.

[Nazly Escalona 🇻🇪 @nazlyescalona]

Great thread. Be sure to look at the asylum grant rate for Venezuelans, then ask what happens to similar claims when people are expelled from the United States under Title 42 without an opportunity to raise their fear of persecution.

[TRAC Reports @TRACReports]

See thread of TRAC's data on Venezuelans below with links to underlying public immigration data.

Good chart-heavy thread on the recent uptick in Venezuelan migration to the US

[Marie Price @marieprice2]

Thanks Austin for sharing this important and timely data. Most of the buses coming to DC from Texas, courtesy of the Governor, are filled in Venezuelans seeking asylum. Some 12,000 have arrived since the summer.

150,755 migrant families and single individuals are currently monitored by ICE in the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program. @TRACReports @ackocher notes that "This is the most in the history of the program since it began in 2004."

"According to data recently released by @TRACReports, 100,363 families and single individuals are currently being monitored through ICE’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) programs, the largest number of people ever enrolled since its inception." https://t.co/Fz1EiY5Khj

[Rebekah Sperling @RebekahSperling]

"Although seemingly a hopeful alternative, ATD's are simply reminders that migrants are constantly dehumanized due to their citizenship status... bound to carry the traumatizing nature of the border with them wherever they go."
