I stopped at Home Depot EARLY this morning expecting the usual Saturday crowd of whipped beta husbands buying paint samples and patio furniture off a honey-do list.

Instead, I witnessed something that restored my faith in America.

Near the lumber aisle, I saw a young father with three boys, probably 7, 10 and 12.

No iPads. No Starbucks. No soccer uniforms.

Each boy was carrying a 2x4.

The youngest was struggling badly, but Dad wasn’t helping him.

“Use both hands, son,” he said calmly. “You got it.”

The kid adjusted his grip and kept moving.

I felt the hair stand up on my forearms.

I approached the father.

“Teaching them early?”

He nodded.

“Building a workbench. They wanted to help.”

Just then the oldest boy looked at me and said, “Dad says if we build it ourselves it’ll last longer than IKEA.”

I nearly dropped my 50-pound bag of Quikrete.

“Your father is correct, young man.”

The dad and I exchanged a firm nod. Nothing else needed to be said.

As I walked toward checkout, I noticed something else.

Not ONE of those boys had complained.

I added another bag of Quikrete to my cart even though I didn’t need it.

As I walked to my King Ranch I saw them loading into a brand new Silverado 1500. And even though it still had temporary plates they already had a Trump 2028 bumper sticker on the tailgate.
