@JEChalmers Prevention is better than cure? This has been a known potential issue for many decades.
Question is - What exactly is the plan moving forward, that would be a twofa
1. A great Policy idea that would be welcomed by voters
2. Something this is actually tangible to the voters.
@realRick_AUS It’s all across the western world. Google any western country and see how they’re travelling it’s a managed decline- we know who and we know why and it has nothing to do with our Governments at any level - they are merely the facilitators.
They didn’t just have “discipline” — they had a completely different economic reality.
In 1983:
•Median house ≈ $118k
•Average full-time wage ≈ $20k
→ House = ~6× income
Today:
•Same house ≈ $3.2M
•Average full-time wage ≈ $90k
→ House = ~35× income
That’s the difference.
Wages have gone up ~4–5×.
Housing has gone up ~25–30×.
The “discipline” gap didn’t change — the price-to-income ratio did.
Young people aren’t locked out because they buy coffee.
They’re locked out because the goalposts moved 5–6x further away.
