My heart is breaking watching the coyotes we have studied in Stanley Park being killed. While we work to better understand the root causes of the negative interactions coyotes have had with humans, please help to advocate for wildlife. (1/5)

While coyotes are denning we’re closing some trails - inc Reservoir Trail & parts of Eagle and Hanson trails in #StanleyPark - to give them space to raise their families without being disturbed. Please respect trail closures as marked and keep pets away. https://t.co/3yHKoXl4Ak
The Fur-Bearers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the recent illegal killing of two cougar kittens in the Cowichan Valley. Please share! #BCpoli

“Coyotes are not, by nature, aggressive. But there is a pervasive myth that they are likely to attack unwarranted, and this belief is dangerous to the animals.” A great article by respected canid biologist @DanzingCoyote https://t.co/1knwvLjBQm
Liberal MP @beynate today introduced Private Members' Bill C-247 into Parliament to end fur farming in Canada. Fur farming creates a public health risk, has been shut down in countries internationally and has ongoing, inherent welfare issues. #CDNpoli#C247#MakeFurHistory
#DYK this is coyote breeding season? As this means coyotes are typically more active, please remember to take precautions in case of a coyote encounter.
COs in the #LowerMainland have seen an increased number of coyote reports to the #RAPP line, particularly involving dogs.
Come work with me and @KaiChanUBC on understanding the landscape drivers of bat diversity and abundance in Metro Vancouver!! 🦇🦇🦇With a particular focus on the endangered little brown myotis. Funding available for a two year MSc project - more info: https://t.co/hYMhFpxMrR
Urban coyotes often ignore people…that’s not bold, not aggressive. Maybe assuming coyotes should run away frantically in fear when they see people is a colonial mindset? Remove food attractants, avoid coyotes, leash pets…be big and loud if that doesn’t work.

The finality of death leaves a gaping hole. Killing teaches us nothing... Death is the end of knowledge; it is the end of understanding and it leaves so many questions permanently unanswered in its aftermath.

Thank you @ParkBoard for taking the steps needed to better protect urban wildlife. I further encourage the board to consider a higher fine structure and to get enough boots on the ground for proper enforcement. Let’s ensure our parks can support coexistence among all species!
The amended Parks Control & Ticket Offences Bylaws are now enacted. Anyone caught leaving or placing a food attractant that could attract wildlife or purposefully feeding wildlife in parks–including raccoons, rodents, coyotes & birds–may now be subject to a fine of $500. 1/2
COURT CASE | A #Whistler resident has received a combined $60,000 penalty for feeding and attracting bears to her property in a precedent-setting case for the #BCCOS as the highest overall penalty imposed under the Wildlife Act in B.C. https://t.co/pxKd6VxDwV
@isabellegroc Agreed!! It was proposed park rangers and police. Rangers need to be trained in enforcement and their numbers greatly increased for constant presence in parks. Fine collection needs to be strong. These were all points raised and they will be discussed more to ensure success.
Spoke at the @ParkBoard meeting tonight to support the no wildlife feeding by-law. It was a unanimous vote to pass the by-law! Thank you to the various commissioners for their thoughtful reflections. Thank you to @animallawcanada and @FurBearers for their powerful presentations!
